Windows Defender Offline boots then stalls

Windows Defender 64-bit has been downloaded three separate times and burned to DVD boot disks. Each time I have booted from the different DVDs, but each time Defender starts to boot then hangs on the screen where the Windows 7 four colored balls swirl around and form the Windows logo. However, with each boot attempt I don't see the balls, only a big light colored blue square where the balls would have been. Then the boot seems to stall right there and not continue.

Again, I have downloaded the Windows Defender file 3 times and each one does the same thing. Any input on this issue as to if it is something I need to do to my PC to allow Defender to finish the boot?

Thanks.

Did you make these disks on a clean PC? If the PC you are using to make the disks is infected, then WDO could be compromised.

Ah...yes, it is the same computer. I will find a friend and get a different disk made and try that again and report. Thanks for the fast reply.

Ok, made new Window Defender Offline 64 bit disk on different machine. Brought back to my machine and tried to boot from the disk. Got the same thing I reported before. Defender hangs and doesn't go past the screen with the blue rectangles.

I did notice something however, after my machine goes through the POST at boot, and before it asks to press any key to boot from the CD drive, I see it say "Boot From CD:"

This does not appear on another machine booting this same disk. It goes from the POST straight to the "press any key..." notice. So, it there something in my BIOS that is keeping Windows Defender from running? Or, am I out in left field on this?

You may have to go into your BIOS settings & change the boot order so that it boots from the CD 1st. You can Google your make & model to find out how to do this, they all vary a little, some you have to hit F12, others F2.

Did you try hitting the enter button when it said boot from CD?

If your BIOS is already set up to boot from CD & WDO won't run, your machine may be severely compromised. Here is a link to a list of other boot AV CD's that you can try on your PC is WDO won't initialize.

If you find that you cannot access your PC with any boot CD's, then more then likely you'll have to do a clean install.

Well, sadly I have already set the BIOS to boot from the CD. I will explore the list and try the other options that you've suggested. Thank you for that list. I feel that my only recourse is going to be to blow everything away, flash the BIOS, and reload Windows 7.

Thanks all who have offered suggestions!

Stuck at win 8 logo!

I had the same issue. It worked when I used a usb CD ROM though. After I got the virus/trojan out my computer blue screened. I took all the startup and services off and same thing. Only works in safemode now. OSRI (Operating System ReInstall) :( BOOOOOOOO!

By the way, you cant do a repair install on vista! Only XP!

Fine for me...I'm retired!
Thanks I'm good now. I had already used malwarebytes, I agree this is an old forum but I got alot of good info from this forum. I don't need anymore help. Thanks.

As I said before, I cannot keep windows from bluescreening. I just wanted people to know that if they are getting a stuck Win 8 logo on boot up then try a usb cd rom. Whatever the maleware is it seems to stop the CD ROM drive from loading win defend. Worked fine to install windows but would not start WinDfend without using a usb drive.
