Windows Explorer Crash

I have a Sony Vaio and windows explorer has been continuously crashing everytime I start my computer for three days. When I go into safe mode the same problem does not happen but I still can't do much so that's not really an option. I've tried suggestions to do a system restore or clean boot but because my windows explorer crashes almost instantaneously I literally can do nothing in normal mode. I really don't know what to do and could use any suggestions. Is there any way to fix this in safe mode?

My computer was acting up about a month back and I had to restore it to factory settings as advised by the people at Sony, however when I did it limited my access to many of my files which I ignored since I desperately needed my computer to last through finals. Are the two related or is this coincidental?

Any advice or guidance would be seriously appreciated.

I just tried doing this a few times and windows explorer keeps crashing before I can even get the elevated command prompt to open.

Just tried that and it worked, it says that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

We need to do some digging to find the cause
can you type eventvwr in search? go to the windows logs>application tab.

You need to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that say app hang, app crash, etc.

when you find them use the built in snipping tool (type snipping in search) to make a screen shot of them and the attachment icon (shaped like a paper clip) in the reply form to upload them

If you cannot do that try a boot logging

But try your best for clean boot that will give us the answer
Try to disable your anti virus and firewall. That may help
Did you install anything lately or make changes
Can you get to system restore from safe mode. If so go back several days before the problem

I did this and there were a lot of errors, a lot. Unfortunately I can't get it to upload because I'm using an old computer for the internet and to do this right now and I'm using my laptop to try and do the things suggested. I don't have internet currently on the laptop.

I tried doing the clean boot in safe mode and when the computer restarted nothing changed, windows explorer is still crashing the minute my desktop loads. Should I try to enable boot logging?

Boot logging is not a cure. It shows what is loading, etc. It is a tool. It will not hurt.

Thank you so much for your help, I ended up calling sony and they went through a battery of diagnostic tests and found that the only way to fix the problem was to reconfigure the C drive and restore it to factory settings. So far everything seems to be working fine.
