Hi,
The other day I did a recovery installation of drive C: The Recovery DVD (well 5 really) I made was right after the computer was turned on for the first time. So it's like it's "Out Of The Box". The D Drive I left alone. Don't worry I backed everything up first :D
Now Windows Explorer crashes quite frequently. To be honest it was doing the same thing before I reformatted.

This is what I ALWAYS used to get and then another saying it is restarting again....
windows_explorer_has_stopped_working.jpg

Now it's changed a bit, I get like this but with Check Online for a solution,
windows+explorer+has+stopped+working.png

Any ideas would be grateful. I have added the results of the SFC scan (Completed with Full Admin Rights)

Zip up the .dmp files in C:\Windows\minidump and upload the zip file here. If there are a lot of them do the last 10 or so.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Just to say that I can't find any "minidump" or "dmp" files on the computer.

I have unhidden system files/folders etc and shown extensions.
I have searched in C:\Windows , in fact I searched the whole computer for "minidump", also using the search "ext: dmp" and a general search of dmp.

Explorer has crashed several times now while searching for the DMP files. Even if I click "Debug", the cursor shows a blue circle but then nothing seems to happen.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.

I have done everything that is in the link you provided about creating the minidump.

Nothing, there are no dmp or minidump files on the computer. I have extensions shown as well as all folders (including system)

I can't create a minidump despite that there have been many crashes.

Any ideas on what else to do?

Is SP1 installed? Have you done all Windows Updates? What version of IE do you have/ IE11?

Open Control Panel then Windows Update. Install all shown. Repeat several times until all are installed.

Hi,

After the reformat, Windows Updated about 160 updates, then it rebooted and downloaded some more updates. It did this five or six times.

My computer has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP 1

My internet explorer is version : 11.0.9600.17843
In case there is some confusion, please note that it is WINDOWS EXPLORER that is the problem.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hiya.

Well this is interesting, I had a very similar issue this morning where I couldn't even open the explorer window without it crashing or lagging a bunch, I tried looking in event viewer if anything had popped up in there, tried to restart explorer as well but nada.

And then I checked for updates and installed five optional updates(KB2952664, 3065987, 3040272, 3065979 and 3064209) and after the restart everything went back to normal. They are updates for 64-bit Windows 7 so it might be a smart move to look if you have them installed!

Cheers mate.

As far as I know (and I could be wrong) you need to make sure that WER (Windows Error Reporting service) is enabled.

You must have a large enough page file for your windows partition.

Also for explorer crashes in particular check the tutorial here and upload the explorer crash dumps.

http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...bleshooting-explorer-exe-crashing-issues.html

More specifically see this post to backup a certain registry key before going ahead:

Hi everybody,

I think I have solved it.
Looking at the "View Problem Details"
I did some more research on the part in red:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: explorer.exe

This research took me to here : Windows Explorer crashes - (ASUSWSShellExt64.dll / - Microsoft Community

It seems that the problem is caused by ASUS WebStorage software which I have un-installed and so far the crashes haven't happened since.......things are looking up..... knowing my luck though...I'm counting my chickens before they are hatched!!

If al is OK still in a few days, I will mark this as solved.

Removing bloatware is always a good idea. On my machine I downloaded a Win 7 ISO legally from digital river and freah installed windows without all the extras.

Hi everybody,

Do you have problems with Windows Explorer (NB. NOT INTERNET EXPLORER) crashing?
Is your computer from ASUS?
Uninstall this ASUS WebStorage software.
This is the problem.......I uninstalled it several days ago and no more "Windows Explorer" has stopped working.

This can now be marked SOLVED!! I know, it will start again shortly afterwards.......knowing my luck.

Regards ET
