I've read many of the threads on this general subject but non apply.
My system starts and runs great. Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) is used for many things including populating icons on the desktop and taskbar. All of those things work fine. However when a process calls Windows Explorer and the pop-up screen shows the file folders it crashes. I have to use a 3rd party program to access my files and folders.
I have tried all the onboard resources to locate the problem and none find it. Every test I run fails to identify that something is wrong with Windows Explorer.
I have tried all the tips featured here and none work.
I do not have a recovery disk or the installation disk, and question whether that would work since nothing has been able to determine that Windows Explorer has a problem. It seems to work well enough to outfox the foxes, but when I want to use it as a file manager or when another process uses it for that purpose, it doesn't work and restarts Windows Explorer. All the icons and taskbar disappear, and then repopulate.
I suspect some 3rd party software corrupted one of the dlls or .....? But nothing shows up as not being as it is supposed to be.
Any thoughts?
Do you know if the online program Reimage would work?
