Windows Explorer stopping intermittently

I did post a while ago re this problem and before I did a repair install I ran the chkdsk with /f and it seemed to have fixed it.

Now it is back again and I saw some Youtube clips on the problem and they came up with a few things and one Autoruns I ran and there were some yellow coloured entries including one called rdpclip and the ispell entires. The rdpclip had - File not found alongside it.

I did find another thread re this and I am sure it said to add it from the install disk. Now as that sounds fairly complicated to me would I be right to say I can use the registry backup from some months ago to reinstate it??

Thanks Brian I did see that and was completely bemused by it all but now I have revisited and I think I have the hang of the fix by Shawn. I am away form home at the moment so it will have to wait until tomorrow.
But thanks again mate as it has proved to be a darn nuisance for the last couple of months and I don't know how it came about to be honest as don't usually muck around with registry stuff unless I am really sure of what I am doing.

No problem John .. That ispell is it an add on for Internet Explorer or a stand alone Program ..

Yep mate I had a lot of problems with speckie too and was using that ispell but it was driving me mad as the speckie checks in real time which I find so convenient being a terrible typist.

But I found the solution to it too more by luck than judgment but at last it is going.

Seem to have a few niggly problems creeping in on my main machine just lately and although I know I can do a install and use an image am not real sure if I would do it properly. Trouble is you blokes make it sound so easy

Autoruns

Hi,

Autoruns will not read rdpclip and report that it's missing. That's because of the way it parses the data. I don't know what version of Autoruns you're using but try the latest version if you're using an old one. You should leave the entry in Autoruns alone.

As far as Explorer goes I see a crash or "not responding" issue on my machine from time to time. The first instance was down to the presence of a corrupt media file. The other crashes have been down to shell extensions - either buggy or outdated.

It's possible to configure your machine to write a dump file for each Explorer crash and then inspect it for clues or else upload it here. Post a reply if you're interested and need to know how.

Just an afterthought - try a one time safe mode boot if you haven't already. Just boot into safe mode then reboot as normal.

Check your registry here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd

Look for the following and if you see the same rdpclip entry then it's fine.

It's nothing to worry about unless you want to use remote desktop and it's not working!

Yes that is just how my autoruns looks am at work right now so will have to check the reg tomorrow when I get home.

Also as far as I can work out the actual rdpclip.exe file is not supposed to exist in Windows 7 Home Premium as it can't be used as a Remote Desktop Host without implementing a hack.
