So I just pieced together a new system, specs:

i7 930 @ 4.0GHz 1.28V
EVGA x58 SLI LE
6GB GSkill Ripjaws
Sapphire Toxic 4890
Corsair HX520W PSU
Win7 Pro x64

I have tested the overclock to be fully stable under 12 hours of Prime95 blend, 20 runs of max RAM LinX and IBT. Temperatures are solid across the board and I have run Memtest on the RAM and tried switching sticks out of the DIMM sockets, etc.

I'm freezing only when I'm doing essentially nothing. Browsing the internet generally, and most often when I open up a video or stream. Other times it will just happen while I'm literally doing nothing but moving the mouse around on the desktop. Now, it's a hard freeze, and as far as I can tell it isn't generating a memory dump because it never even goes to a BSOD. What would cause this? I'm fully stable under stress testing and gaming, but as soon as I have the gall to do nothing, it crashes?

I have my eyes on the power supply as it is 3 years old and a little on the low side for my new system. I also can't rule out the motherboard completely as I have no LGA1366 alternatives.

I believe you may be correct about the PSU.. You may want to consider replacing it with a larger one .. Dont cheap on your PSU though, get the best that you can afford .... ;)

Oh I won't, this is just a holdover from my old system, never intended to keep it much longer.

Despite all of the testing--stop overclocking and see if the problem goes away.

Yeah I have tried that. I also tried disabling hyperthreading and changing back and forth virtually every BIOS setting that I could decipher.

Set the bios to defaults. Leave it that way.

What are "solid temperatures"?

35-40C idle, 70-75C load on the CPU. NB hits around 55C, SB around 40C.

A suggestion:
WIN + X key combo | in the Battery Status section, select "Balanced" or "Power Saver"

Your max temp will drop.

WIN is the key with the wavy flag on it.
