Okay so i am new here first post. I am trying to update to windows 10 to try it out have heard great things i had a copy reserved but i recently got a new motherboard and processor. I had one of my friends install it all and he said he had to reformat my computer which is no big deal. Figured he would just use my CD key that was on the side of my PC and install fresh windows.

The problem is when i go to install windows 10 i get an error that says Windows is not active on this computer (also i've been able to do all of my updates and it never pops up and says that windows in not genuine or anything) so i went ahead and put in my CD key as it asks but it says this CD key didn't work please try again.

So naturally i went a head and just tried to activate windows with my CD key but when i try to activate windows i get an error that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You maynot have the appropriate permissions to access the item." it says C:\Windows\system32\slui.exe at the top of the error message.

I did a little research and i believe he may have used a Pirated copy of windows i am not 100% positive though.

The installation is counterfeit.
You have a Product Key from an ACER computer , with a motherboard which appears to be a retail one.
There are signs of a hacker's Activation Exploit present in an attempt to bypass activation/validation requirements.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

Having said that - for what version and edition of Windows is the COA sticker on the case valid?
Do you have the installation media that your 'friend' used for the reinstall? - DVD or USB stick?
