My problem is similar to others that hve been posted in this forum.
"Windows is not genuine" message, extremely slow in normal mode (task times went from seconds to minutes).
History
Java had not been updated. Did that and then started getting the above message.
Ran virus scans and removed some virus files from java folders using MS Security Essentials, Kasperky, Malware Bytes. I had to run these in Safe Mode because it was going so slow.
Working in Safe Mode now.
Windows is the what was installed when we got the computer in 2009.
Diagnostic report below.

The MGADiag report was run while in Safe Mode - which means that a lot of useful data is missing.
Please try booting to normal mode and running another MGADiag report from there - but I suspect that the main problem is actually nothing to do with the WGA notification (which is probably a result of a race condition)

Let's have a look at the Event logs....

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

There are no problems showing in the report at all.
In your first post, you referred to running scans with MSE and Kaspersky - if these are both installed they will conflict if both run in prevention mode. You should only ever run with one active AV.

The System logs reveal that the major problem appears to be that the Server service is not starting.
This is an essential service since almost all networking depends on it.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

Code:
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer
SC QUERYEX SamSS
SC QUERYEX Srv
SC QC SamSS
SC QC Srv
 .

Post the results

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Excruciatingly slow; seconds=minutes. Six minutes to get to the command prompt aft 30 minute boot-up.
Now that I have done a dry run and I know what to expect, I have rerun in normal mode and posted below.

Hmm - so the service does actually start eventually, then.

I think your best option at the moment is to turn off MSE and see if that allows the system to boot.
Is Kaspersky installed, or not?
These significant errors show in the event logs just before the snowstorm of Server errors...
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
discache
MpFilter
spldr
Wanarpv6
The MpFilter is part of MSE
spldr is part of the Software Protection system
Wanarpv6 is the MS Remote Access and Routing ARP
discache is the Microsoft System Indexer/Cache Driver

This set has been implicated before in cases where an MSE install is corrupted or blocked - so you may want to think about uninstalling MSE completely, and then either re-installing it or installing an alternative.

So, I had already turned off MSE. I tried to uninstall per your suggestion, but I get the attached error. Tried to uninstall a second time after restart but got the same message.
I ran the Kaspersky scan off a memory stick ( MSE off). Even though it says it is installing when it runs, I can't find it anywhere to remove. Ran Kaspersky in safe mode. It says it would be better to run in normal mode and I started to do that but stopped after about 8 hours; I estimate it would have taken another 20 hours to complete based on the number of files it had completed.

MSE seems to be uninstalled now (after a few mis-steps).
Thing seem to be working better. I can post to this forum using the computer whereas I was usuing a different one before.

Great - Make sure that you have an AV installed, and run a full system scan of ALL files.

Left the computer on overnight and got the attached message.
Things are going slow again too.
Think I should run the backup or do the scan first?

FIRST - back up your data to external media!!

THEN do a full CHKDSK scan and post the results.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then open
Event Viewer > Windows logs > Applications

Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx

then zip it, and upload it to your reply.

Backup was not successful. Tried 3 times, got the message "The last backup did not complete successfully"
Ran CHKDSK anyway and attached the results.

Lets see if this file is correct.
This has today's information on it also.
The chkdsk was done yesterday, 12/26.

Here's a snippet from the CHKDSK results...

Correcting errors in the master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

6632968 KB available on disk.
4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
19535039 total allocation units on disk.

It looks to me as if your hard drive may be beginning to fail - you should back up your data to external media now, before we attempt anything further.

Tried to backup 3 times. Got the attached message.
Even tried to do just the C drive with the OS and got the same message.
I bought an external drive that could take the entire contents of the laptop.
Any suggestions?
