I have Windows live mail. My hotmail account was hacked by someone about a month back. Ever since then, I am not able to receive messages from my hotmail account in Windows Live Mail. At first, when I tried to open my hotmail account, everything was in Hebrew language. I searched the forum and found a way to change the language to English. However, I continue to get this message till now:
Server: 'pop3.live.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10053
I tried to repair Windows Mail. Even after that, the error message continued. I reinstalled Windows Live Mail.
Even after that I continue to get the same error message.
Please help. It is a frestrating experience.

Dear Road Runner,
I am grateful to you for your prompt response.
I had already installed Windows Live Mail 2012.
So, after receiving your suggestion, I closed my hotmail account.
(I have bsnl.in account in addition to Hotmail account at present in Windows Live Mail.)
I freshly added hotmail account using my current password.
Then I sent testmails from the newly installed hotmail account to my gmail and bsnl accounts.
They have been received.
However, the mail which I sent from gmail account to hotmail has not been received.
Stated differently, I am able to send mails using my hotmail account.
But I am not receiving mails into my hotmail account.[/B]
I am not receiving error messages now.
I request your help again.
Regards,
S.Neelakantan

Hi Neelakantan,

Check you Gmail properties, on the General tab, it should have your full [email protected] in the Email Address box
-
On the Servers tab, put your full [email protected] in the Email username box and should look like this:-

1.JPG

The Advanced tab should look like this:-

2.JPG

Your Hotmail properties don't need to be checked. Click my images to enlarge them.

Dear Roadrunner,
Thanks again for the reply.
In my PC I have Windows Live Mail and gmail separately.
In Windows live mail, I have two accounts, namely Hotmail and BSNL.
Only for these two accounts in the Windows Live mail, I get Hotmail Properties and BSNL properties as shown in your appended images.
In the gamil settings, I do not get the General/Servers/Security/Advanced tabs.
However it has a different type of settings. I do not find the servers tab in it; nor do I find server port numbers.
Meanwhile, when I opened my Windows Live Mail and checked the send/receive button, I received this message:
Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (s_neelakantan) account.

Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

This is a new error message now.
Please suggest a possible solution.
Regards,
S.Neelakantan

Do you have "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" checked for your Hotmail account in Live Mail?
If not, check that option, so SSL is required and see if it helps.

If this doesn't fix your issue can you post screen prints of your Live Mail / Hotmail settings like Roderunner did in Post #4 ?

Ah, interesting...
I'm on a system with Outlook 2010 and and a Hotmail POP3 account.
SSL is an option I can choose...

I'll have to get on a system with Live Mail / Hotmail and take a look...
If it's a setting that can't be changed in Live Mail / Hotmail, why does the OP show No SSL with Port 995?

I just played with this in WLM 2012 an added a Hotmail account as POP3.
When I chose "Manually configure server settings" I could add the Hotmail account as POP3 and it receives email.
I used pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com for the servers - same as I use in Outlook.

As the OP account was hacked, it might be best to delete the WLM Hotmail account and re-add it???
Also, make sure the password is changed.

@Neelakantan
Did you intentionally setup this account as POP3 in Live Mail?
The default is "MAPI", unless you manually configure server settings from what I see...

Hi David, when I add a Hotmail account to WLM, all I enter is [email protected] plus my password.
Look at the server setting in my #07 post. There is no mention of MAPI.

I agree, if you don't choose "Manually configure server settings", you get the default protocol - MAPI.
While MAPI is not displayed, it's my understanding that is what is used...

MS does not support the "IMAP" protocol for Hotmail access via "email client programs", they chose to enforce using MAPI, a MS proprietary protocol.

As you see in my screen prints WLM 2012 does allow for POP3 Hotmail accounts, and the user can configure servers, SSL, etc.
Setup a Hotmail (or Outlook.com) account as I showed, and see what you think.
You can setup the same Email account as 2 CLIENT (WLM) accounts - 1 as default(MAPI), and 1 as POP3...
I've done this - I don't recommend keeping it that way as it is confusing.
But, it works and is "fun for testing"...

I used my own "Outlook" settings in post #8 to add a WLM POP3 account, and that worked for me.
If you can't setup a WLM Hotmail POP3 account with what I've posted there, let me know.
I deleted my WLM Hotmail POP3 account on my test box.
I can re-add it and capture/post more screenshots.

Dear David W7ncus,
Thank you for suggesting a solution.
But I could not carry out the suggestion.
In my Windows Live Mail, Hotmail Properties has only three tabs.
They are General/Server/Security.
In the Server tab - server information is:
My mail server is an HTTP server
Server URL is ://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/sync.aspx
However, in my Windows Live Mail, I have added another mail service: BSNL.
BSNL Properties has four tabs.
They are General/Server/Security/Accounts
In the Bsnl servers tab
My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
Incoming Mail POP3: pop.bsnl.in
Outgoing Mail SMTP: smtp:bsnl.in
In the advanced tab
Outgouing Mail (SMTP) 25
SSL box not ticked
Incoming Mail (POP3) 110
SSL box not ticked

I am a layman and I have very little knowledge of computing. So I am sending the information to you which I thought might be relevant to you in solving the problem.
Thanks again,
S.Neelakantan

Hello Neelakantan,

I'm not sure if something changed for you, as it seems the error you get changed from what you stated in post #1 and what you stated in post #5...

What I would do, is delete and re-add the Hotmail account in Windows Live Mail to see if that helps.

To remove or add a WLM email account:
1 - Click on the drop down in the upper left corner
2 - Click on Options
3 - Click on Email Accounts...

Select your Hotmail account, and click Remove

To Re-Add the account to WLM...
Click the Add button
Select Email Account and click Next
Enter your Hotmail address and click Next

Here is a screen print to get you started on my instructions that may be confusing to read...
