Windows Live Mail - superfluous to outlook/hotmail? Deleting it?

Hi - my first day here and am not techno savvy, so please allow for my ignorance!

I have outlook (formerly hotmail) and never use Windows Live Mail, yet I see (quite baffliingly) that I have some emails of mine that are on there...some from past years. (?) I never did anything to initiate the transfer of any emails here and have never logged in to Windows Live Mail. I don't really want it on my system if it is superfluous to requirements.

Does it have a use if you already have another email address set up? If so, please explain.

If not, how do I delete it from my system. Thanks.

You can get email in one of two ways. You can either go to the website and get your mail. The other way is to have the mail downloaded to your computer with WLM. If you use WLM you can get off the internet and read your mail. If you sell your computer and you did not delete the mail, the computer buyer can see your mail. If you have several email addresses, you can read them all in WLM. Do you need WLM? Based upon the information the decision is yours. Personally, I use WLM and only go to the website for my mail when I am not using my own computer. Any questions please ask.
If you want to delete it, go to control panel and look for Windows Essentials or Windows Live Mail. If you see WLM it can be deleted. If you see Windows Essentials, there may be other software that you would, also delete. You can go to Windows Essentials, on the internet and see what other programs may be included.
Windows Essentials - Download Windows Live Essentials

I know about the uninstalling programme facility and Windows Live Mail is not listed under that name. From what you say it could be Windows Essentials. That is listed but you indicate that could contain other stuff so am reluctant to erase it. (The link you gave was to download Windows Essentials but I have it). How do I check what is on Windows Essentials? When I type "windows essentials" into the start window, it just goes to the same link you included, i.e. to download it. (?)

I don't have a mobile phone...are you saying that WLM is a facility on this then, i.e. without having to go online?

How can I get emails from my Outlook account to stop transferring into WLM? I do nothing for this to take place and it is a bit disturbing that this happens (as mentioned, I never ever login to WLM).

First, I gave you the link not to download anything, but to show you what other programs you may have on your computer. If you do not want any of them, you can uninstall, WLM from the control panel.
Get back to me tell me what you did, and I will give you additional information if needed.
Before you do anything make a system restore point, in case things go wrong

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You can click the Start button and click on All Programs
Usually at the very bottom you'll see a windows essentials folder
If you open that folder it will show you everything that is already downloaded but no necessarily installed yet,

Same as if you re-downloaded the windows essentials 2012 program again and used the custom install,
View attachment 342610
After choosing the above the installer will show you the installed programs,
we2012-mesh.jpg

Same as if you went to Uninstall a program and used remove one or more windows essentials programs,
It will also show you want is already installed,
Uninstall%20or%20change%20we2012.jpg

Use live mail or not is not a big deal it's a free email program you can use on many websites when you use help and support and reply to the site email support
Other than that live mail doesn't have advertising inside it as webmail does especially outlook.com or Hotmail.com,
Cheers.

That's the way I did it the other day on a new Dell All-in-One Inspiron computer and the lady is very satisfied as is her novice husband.

I have outlook (formerly hotmail)
And PLEASE use the correct/full name to avoid Microsoft's propensity for mixing up names, Hotmail.com is becoming Outlook.com, not to be confused with Microsoft Office Outlook.

ThrashZone - thanks for the welcome! I went to all programmes but there was no windows essential folder listed. It did show all the Windows files though and one of them I want to keep, Windows Media Player. So I guess, without the folder, I can't delete the other Window files?

The computer I have Windows Live Mail on shows it on the Start Menu above the All Programs item, about 3 or 4 lines above Windows Update and just below Windows Fax and Scan. Windows Media Player comes with Windows. Windows Live Mail was the only feature of Essentials I installed on that computer, it's a Loaner for use by clients who have a dead computer but waiting for a new one to arrive.

When I right click on log on window with my username there, the delete part is in grey i.e. not available. Is there another way to delete Windows Live Mail?

Well I have info in WLM going back years, i.e. when I had a different password to that I have now (and it has recent emails).

Is there some way I can stop the emails being transferred?
