windows media player usage

if i open task manager/processes windows media plaer is usualy near the top when
Memory (private Working Set) is selected
at the moment its at 32,252K is this normal when its not even running?
if i stop the process it just starts again.

If I open my player, it uses ~27,000K, just doing nothing. It should not start back up though if you've closed it or killed it via the task manager; that's quite odd.

Have you run a virus scan lately? I'd do that asap, then run Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes

i ran security essentials earlier today all was fine, ill run malwarebytes now

ran malwarebytes and yeh it picked up a couple of things, cleared them and restarted and win media player still runs in the background, if i stop it it just starts again at about 9000K and raises till it gets to about 33,000K

Something fishy is going on, that's for sure. Update your anti virus, then do another scan, only this time disable system restore. Often those little buggers will hide themselves there because it's an area that's no accessible to scans unless disabled.

Right click on Computer, select properties, advanced system settings, system protection tab.

thanks Fumz i will do but been waitinf for battle feild bad company 2 to install its taken well over an hour now so i know with my spec that theres something not right somewhere

Kill the install. It does not take that long, especially with your i7. You've got some nasty stuff going on you need to deal with first.

... and more importantly, I don't need you infecting me when you finally do get it installed.

Run Super-Anti Spyware twice, once in safe mode, the other in Windows 7, do the same for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Sophos Anti Rootkit. Post the logs, also run Hi Jack This and post the log for inspection.

Do you have a keyboard with an lcd panel that displays media player info? What your describing also happens to me because I use logitech G15 keyboard and because of the function to display info on lcd screen even if you close media player it will restart seconds later, I think it is to do with side show.

If you have no such device then continue to seek and destroy.

yes i also have a G15 keyboard with the little screen so guess its down to that, its on a draw under my desk so never actualy use the lcd screen so is there a way to turn it off?

Glad you've nailed it. The only way I've found up to now of disabling it is by ending the process windows media sideshow under wmp then ending media player, although it will come back on at some point.

It doesn't really bother me as I use media player as my main media source. You could try disabling windows side show because that is what links media player to your keyboard.

I'll have a poke around see what I come up with.

Go to control panel and windows side show and uncheck logitech lcd panel, job done.
