Windows & Running Extremely Slow

I did a Windows 7 reimage on my ThinkPad recently. At first, everything was running very quick. Now, about 1 month later, it is ridiculously slow. I don't see many tasks running in the Task Manager, but the HDD is constantly running, running, running. That's what I'm most concerned about. The drive is constantly running but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. There is no virus on the machine. A month ago it was fine; now it's just slowed to a crawl.

Here is a screen shot (attached). Not sure if it helps or not. Does anyone here have an idea about how I can optimize the performance?

Hi,
Use the button on the bottom center Resource monitor
On the top left of the page that opens click on the Overview section and post a screen shot like this one


Use Clean boot,
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,

Thanks. I tried those things. I think I see what is happening here, sort of. If I use basically anything like MS Office, Visual Studio, SQL Server, and some other tools, everything runs normally. Sometime, however, when I open a browser, like Firefox or Explorer, sometimes after a few minutes the machine grinds to a halt, but only sometimes. Sometimes it's perfectly fine. It's something in the browsers, or some Windows scripts that supports these browsers, I suppose.Sometime a message will popup and read, 'your Windows service has stopped working' but it never actually identifies what service has stopped. If I could diagnose this, I can probably put an end to this pretty quickly. Any idea on how to proceed?

Here are 2 more snapshots. Any ideas? It's definitely something with my browsers sucking up a lot of resources. Sometimes the issue resolves itself, and whatever process is running in the background is released, and everything gets back to normal. Sometimes it works so hard it just freezes up, and I need to reboot. Again, this seems to happen only with Mozilla/Firefox (recent version) and IE (recent version).

Well looks fairly normal beside Mcafee being used
Not anyone personal favorite on this site
How long have you used Mcafee ?

There are many better free alternatives
A popular one is Avast free and Panda free combined with Malwarebytes premium you'd be better protected.

I'm not familiar with maleware protect.

And it will continue to be slow with all those programs running in the background.

Those numbers are very high in my opinion.

Yea I also asked for the resource monitor Overview screen shot too = didn't get it yet to see what exactly is using 10% cpu and 1.90gb memory :/
