windows scan comes up on boot

This morning I had to turn Dell off with the button not the normal way I usually shut down. It is now coming up with a message that gives you about 5 seconds to read that the disks must be scanned. This isn't a scam is it? I think it's because of the way it was shut down. Should I go ahead and let windows do the scan? Thanks.
