Solved Windows sidebar gadget issue

Well this one isn't the usual "my gadgets won't appear" or "my gadgets are all black". One of my gadgets is missing. Doing a right click on the desktop and selecting Gadgets no longer brings up the Gadgets window. If I attempt to reinstall the missing gadget I get told it cannot be reinstalled because it is already running.

Running the command line "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe/show Gadgets" has no effect. I just can't get that window to reappear.

Any suggestions please?

Open task manager Ctrl+shift+ Esc, see if sidebar.exe is running. If so, right click the listing and choose End Process Tree.

Now navigate to Turn Windows features on or off

Start> In search box type Turn Windows features on or off> Enter

Scroll down to Windows Gadget Platform, and uncheck the box> Click OK

Restart the PC, then repeat the process and tick the box next to Windows Gadget Platform. See if it's working now. If not, we can try other things. easy things 1st ;)

It turned out to be a bad boot. When I booted this morning everything was back to normal
Thanks very much for your input anyway. That was useful information which I will remember and try should I ever be in a similar situation.
