Hi, I seem to have the same errors installing the SP1 as other, as yet I have not been successful. I ran the system update readiness tool, it ran to completion but failed to fix things well enough. The failed updates error is trust_e_nosignature (0x800b0100). I have attached the CBS.zip file as I pray for help!

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

That machine has quite a few corrupt files! But hopefully nothing which can't be patched up in a jiffy! Well done on uploading your log files.

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
@BonShaw: Ignore the above :)

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks a lot, and the very best of luck!

Richard

Thank you so much. I've performed all that you requested and have attached the log file. I also attempted to load/run SP1 and received error code 0x800f0818.

Hello again!

Very well done on following those instructions. You did it perfectly!

Code:
Found 134 errors
Fixed 134 errors

Can you please restart your computer and re-try SP1 once more for me, and if it still fails, please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thank you so much for your help. I very much appreciate your interest and skills! The SP1 update still fails after rebooting. I have attached the CBS log. Regards!

Hello again!

Well, I have worked out what the problem is, anyway! Thanks for uploading the log files!

Please re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and re-post a new C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Hopefully that will show the error, otherwise I can do a manual fix job.

Basically, of those 134 errors, one did not fix correctly. There was a replacement, hence why all were reported as fixed, but actually one file got replaced with the wrong file in some confusion.

This is nothing to worry about. We shall just replace it again. So, 133 down, 1 to go.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

Hello!

Sorry about this dragging on a little. I only need a few more posts, and I will be done! We are literally on the verge of fixing this machine once and for all.

Please delete this file: C:\Windows\CheckSur\v1.0\windows6.1-7601-x64-clientcab4.cab

For the moment, please leave it in your Recycle Bin.

Then please run the System Update Readiness Tool one more time, and upload a new log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log)

Thanks a lot!

Hi Richard,

I also can't install Win 7 SP1.

I have already ran the SURT tool...with success.
After a reboot I still can't install the SP1.

Did I missed something?

I already attached the log.

Thanks for your help!

Are you attempting to install SP1 through Windows Update??

Or through the stand-alone exe file that can be downloaded from Microsoft?

No.

I am referring to the exe files shown at this link:

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Specifically, one of the three at the bottom.

The 64-bit version is the next to last one:

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

The 32-bit version is the very last one:

windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe

That's how I upgraded to SP1. I just downloaded the appropriate exe and ran it like any other file.

I mention that method because I know some people have problems installing SP1 via Windows Update.

I ran the system readiness tool and it runs the Hotfix KB947821-V14-X64.msu that runs sucessfully. I then downloaded windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe as I'm on a 64-bit system. The update fails. The error code is 0x800f0818.

I've also tried disabling all my anti-virus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and stopping all non-Microsoft services using msconfig while I install the pack but it fails as well.
