Windows Startup Repair query

OK, I got this sorted. I just plugged it into one of the front USB ports, then I got the usual installing drivers at the bottom right side of my screen, then it said USB Input Device was installed and ready to use. The I plugged it into the back of the PC again and the same thins happened, it ran through it's installation of the driver.

So all good on the keyboard now! Pretty happy about that because it was seriously doing my head in :D

Hi,

I have received the new SSD from Dell. I also got a cable with it and not an instruction in sight. So I have mailed them about this and asked for a technician to call out, they have agreed to this which is good.

As for the SSD, it's a brand I haven't even heard of! I just looked them up, seems to be 'OK.' Have you heard of these?? The actual model they sent me, I didn't see any results when I searched for it. This is the one:

Stick this to where Samsung was initially before we changed it (SAS bay).
Boot into Windows, format the drive and run AS SSD. The seq write is low on this one too by the way. But it still has a nice score.
Then clone them.
Remove the Samsung and place this in SATA1.
Change boot order if necessary. Boot up and run another AS SSD (to see the difference between the two ports).

Thanks GokAy

A bit annoying how it has a low write speed too. I will try what you said, but I can't right now, have to head off. Will hopefully get to it tomorrow/Thursday.

I'd nearly be better to just buy one of these, I think this is the one I have in my laptop -

Samsung 850 Pro is a really good SSD, you won't regret I believe. Keep us updated when you can.

Hi GokAy,

I actually haven't had a chance to do the test. Dell have agreed to send a technician to my house to install the new one along with the cable they sent. I wouldn't know what way to install it.

I think for peace of mind, I will just buy the Samsung Pro 256GB SSD and when the Dell person calls out, I will get them to install that instead of the SK hynix one. I have decided I will do a clean install from scratch again on the new SSD, just to start from fresh. I know I will have to do all the updates again, but I am cool with that.

That would be the best option I think, I know I have to fork out money for it, but at least I know I will have a good SSD.

Hi GokAy, Greg,

Long time no chat. I have not been on the forum in quite some time, mainly due to work being absolutely mental and not having the time to use my PC as much as I would have liked. Finally I have got around to doing the fresh install and trying to build up my PC to the way I want it. Just to fill you in on where I am at with my PC:

I made an image using Macrium once I got my updates done, main drivers & anti-virus installed. Just so I could have a base system backup as you mention in your article Greg.

Now I am currently installing my programs one by one, almost done with that. Then once I have them all installed, I will do another Macrium backup of the PC.

I just have a question about CCleaner - is this definitely a good option to use? I use it on my laptop and it seems fine. But one guy in work has told me to avoid it. What would your honest opinion of CCleaner be?

Thanks :)

Hey RedLad, nice to hear from you again.

The file cleaner part is alright to use. Our experienced people (along with Microsoft) will say registry cleaning is unnecessary and "may" even cause issues. Personally, I use both functions without any issues. But I don't run it all that frequent and backup daily so I have my guarantees.

CCleaner is the good cleaner around. If you will use one, use CCleaner.
