/*NOTE: to the right it says i'm running the RC, but i'm not anymore. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. and now...*/

All of my system sounds work fine, as do all of the wav files in the C:\Windows\Media directory. All except for Windows Startup.wav. When my computer starts up, the sound does not play, and when I double click the file in the folder, it only makes a brief "click sound".

I tried replacing it with one from my friends Windows 7 machine, but it strangely just makes the same "click" sound in WMP.

I have tried sfc \scannow to fix some small registry hiccups, and it actually fixed everything, except for this. I have tried to toggle the sounds etc. / reboot, but none of those seem to be working. any help is appreciated.

Hi xCaptainAmazing.Welcome to SevenForums:)

The Windows Start Up wav is stored in C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll.

Have a look at the following thread.I know it is about replacing the start up wav, but it will give you a lot of insight in how to restore your start up sound.

Change Windows 7 Startup Sound?

Hope this helps;)
