Hello

So after running Win 10 for a couple of months, I decided to downgrade today to Win 7 because my PC stopped working since today morning probably due to corrupt Win 10 sys files (I couldn't even get it to repair or reset)

Anyhow, I formatted my SSD and clean installed Windows 7 x64 today evening and since then it has installed a few updates. When I check for updates manually, it just goes on checking and checking....

I downloaded and installed the Windows Update Troubleshooter Tool from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us and ran it and it came up with an error.

Please check the attached screenshot.

Can someone kindly advise what this error is about and how do I resolve this

I saw many threads here about Windows getting stuck at Checking For Updates, but I thought of mentioning the error message here so that I can get some advise from the experts

Please help

Many thanks

UPDATE - I downloaded an ran the MS FixIt utility for update troubleshooting and even that is stuck at Checking for updates online

Your error code has multiple possible issues. If all else fails, you can do repair install (keeps all your programs, files, folders, video, music, etc.) Piece of cake, I performed repair install on 2 computers running win7x64 home premium. Only issue was Adobe Flash crashed, instantly, every time they started. Solution uninstall and reinstall Flash.
Windows updates are taking forever on new or repair installs.
Some state 24-48 hours, although I haven't found that to be the case. Usually 4-8 hours
Set power options to sleep never
Start windows update.
Be patient, it should eventually complete.

Hi,
After a clean install to make life a little easier change your windows update settings
Uncheck the box Give me recommended updates the same as Important ones
Then at least all Important updates will only be listed in the Important section which should be loaded first anyway

After loading them you can deal with the hundreds of Optional section updates which will include all recommended updates.

Don't do CLEAN INSTALL unless you wish to lose all your installed program, files, folder, music, video, etc. REPAIR INSTALL from inside windows preserves all those programs, replacement of Windows only. With REPAIR INSTALL, it offers the option of going on line for updates, or not. You need your 25 character Windows product key. If it's not on your computer, or in some cases inside the battery compartment, it is stored in the windows registry in binary form (ones & zeros) MagicJellybean & Belarc Advisor (both free), or a simple Visual Basic script will decipher it. Have VB script I can upload if you wish.
