I have am currently running IE9 and see an error code of 9C59 when installing the update to IE11.
The Windows Update Troubleshooter reported the service registeration is missing or corrupt (not fixed), and the Windows updat error 0x80070490(2014-12-12-T-07_49_01P) (not fixed).
I then downloaded the system update readiness tool, but it would not install, and I received the following error:
Installer encountered an error: 0x8007000d the data is invalid.
Can you tell me what to do next?

It sound like you got a bad download of the CheckSUR tool - please download another copy and try again
Whatever happens, please post the CBS data as requested.

I attempted to download ie10 unhiding all hidden updates, then hiding ie11. ie10 did not show up.

NoelDP, you were right - the first CheckSUR tool was corrupt. I installed different download of the CheckSUR tool. It ran and completed an update, then stopped. I expected some kind of message that it had completed, so I ran it again. This time, it showed another update and said installation complete.
I then ran the SFC / scannow, which completed with errors that it could not fix.
Installing updates still shows the only update to install is ie11. Installation fails and produces error code 9C59.

The latest CBS file and checksur files are attached. The entire cbs folder is 24.3M and would not upload, presumably because the 8Mb limit on zip files.
Thanks.

the data is incomplete for the second run?
There are no SFC results in the uploaded CBSPersist file - please copy the CBS.log file to the desktop, compress it and upload the compressed file.

NoelDP,
Thanks for the reply. I don't know if it matters, but I noticed the error referred to an AMD processor when the laptop has an Intel i5 processor.

The amd64 in the filenames refers to the architecture, rather than the manufacturer - IA64 (Itanium) and x86 (32-bit) are the only other alternates.

Sorry! - got lost in the rush! :(

Here you go...

I've uploaded a file - m82aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\m82aa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\m82aa
or
DIR E:\m82aa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\m82aa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

That looks OK to me - but there are some disturbing errors in the background data.

Please attempt Windows Update again - first do a Check for updates, then attempt to install ONLY th eoldest found update.

It's likely to fail - please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file

NoelDP,
It seems my computer is slowing down - I noticed the hard drive light doesn't go out for more than a fraction of a second. I ran ccleaner and that didn't seem to help.
Explorer restarted a couple of times because it became unresponsive. I then tried to run sfc /scannow, figuring it couldn't hurt. It would not run due to "another servicing or repair operation is currently running. Wait for this to finish and run sfc again."
Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm -

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

From the Application log, it looks like you have a massive number of 'MissingWinningComponentKey' errors - almost all of which are related to Internet Explorer 9.

The System log is apparently corrupt.

Please run another CheckSUR scan, and post the results.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Problems with IE9 is probably why the web pages need to be recovered often. Is the missingwinningcomponentkey causing the WindowsWcpStoreCorruption? I imagine all the errors is why the computer is running so slow.
BTW, I had stopped all the ni components around 10PM, which is probably why the niZeroconfService errors quit.
I will try the CheckSUR scan after work.

It seems that CheckSUR does not run completely. I have had it running for about 9 hours and it looks like it got stuck on installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) updated 1 of 1.

I will cancel the update and try again.
