Windows Update checking for updates issue

Hi, I would be grateful for any advice or help with the following issue I am having with this laptop.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Samsung RV510

I noticed Windows Update was getting stuck on Checking for updates and tried to troubleshoot the issue. (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, KB947821, manually updating update agent etc)
I eventually did a a system restore (built in samsung recovery solution 5) to the condition it was sold in.
Microsoft Update was working but stopped working again after updating to SP1.


Have run SURT and SFC. CBS logs attached.

Also;
When using WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, sometimes the following error appears and is or isnt fixed.

Windows Update error 0x80070005

There are no significant errors in either CheckSUR or the CBS log background.

There may have been a 'stuck' update at one point, but that appears to have finished installing finally yesterday afternoon.

Are you still seeing the errors?

If so try this...

To correct the problem, you can try the steps below. Keep in mind that these steps are still experimental. I look forward to your feedback and results. For the long term, we hope that we can create an automated solution for all.

1. Download and install SubInACL from the Microsoft Download Center Download SubInACL (SubInACL.exe) from Official Microsoft Download Center

2. Open Notepad (Click Start, type Notepad, and then press Enter)

3. Copy and paste the following text into Notepad



Set OSBIT=32

IF exist "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" set OSBIT=64

set RUNNINGDIR=%ProgramFiles%

IF %OSBIT% == 64 set RUNNINGDIR=%ProgramFiles(x86)%

subinacl /subkeyreg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing" /grant="nt service\trustedinstaller"=f



4. Close Notepad, and make sure you save it. When you save the text, make sure that you set
Save as Type to “All Files (*.*)”. Very important! The file name needs end with .CMD. For example: fix.cmd. Lastly, when you save the file, make sure you save it at a location where it will be easy for you to find.

5. Right click on the file that you just saved in step #4, and select “Run as Adminstrator”

Hey NoelDP,

Thanks for responding.

Installed SubInACL and ran the script but doesn't appear to be able to find it.

'subinacl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file


Regarding do I still see any errors;
I don't get any errors on the actual update gui, its stuck forever searching for updates and doesn't error or stop.
The error I mentioned above "Windows Update error 0x80070005" is still appearing in the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool however.

After restoring the system, Windows Update works perfectly UNTIL it comes to install SP1. After SP1 is installed, it updates the Update Agent and then gets stuck in this checking for updates limbo after completing. (Regardless of if you have manually updated the agent or not)
