Windows update completes, but does not stay?

Hi,
My situation is a little hard to explain, but here I go. When I go to update something on the desktop via Windows Update, I can download and install updates. BUT, when I go to the notification bar, it says that there are updates available again, even though I already installed those same updates.

I have tried shutting down the computer to install the updates, which does download and install, but the update icon still appears on the "Shut down" button. It's weird because in the update history it will say that I performed the updates that day, but still says there are available ones.

Sorry - I was certain I'd responded to this!

My usual action if I meet this kind of concerted refusal of .NET updates to install is to uninstall.NET 4 completely, then run the cleanup tool, and reinstall (if it's actually needed at all!)
