Windows update encountered an unknown error 80070005

Ah - so MBAM appears to have stripped out the service key, but not the related driver ley.

In that case, this should work...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

Code:
REG DELETE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_F06DEFF2-5B9C-490D-910F-35D3A91196222\0000

.

Then reboot - that should knock it on the head :)

KB2592687 - is the update for RDP8.0...
Please check that 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2547819)' is currently installed, as it must be for the installation of KB2592687 to succeed. You should find it in the Installed Updates listing, if you search on KB2547819

If we assume that it is installed, then perhaps it's broken in some way - try uninstalling it, then go to Windows Update and run a new Check for Updates. Install it again then try installing KB2592687.

If the uninstall/reinstall fails at any point, what exact error is given?

GOOD NEWS:
I attempted the optional updates again one by one in the windows updates and all of them installed including KB2592687 which was the problem without KB2547819 being installed on my system. im hoping this means that everything is okay with my machine now and that this mess was the reason for no new drivers installing for my external devices as mentioned in this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/330829-pc-will-not-recognize-any-external-devices.html.

In that case, I'd hide the KB2592687 update so it doesn't get in the way - it's far from being an essential one.
Right-click on its entry in the list, and select Hide.
Then it won't annoy you unless it itself gets updated.

Run another check for updates,
Then attempt to install the next oldest one - KB2709981.

Wow! - I wasn't expecting that one to *ever* go in! Just lucky, I guess :)

Good luck with it.
