All of those look normal to me - the WECSVC shut down unless required.
I was almost hoping that that the Eventlog service would be locked out - it may have made life simpler.
I need to do some testing.

That went easier than expected :)

Please follow these instructions....

reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\windows
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\windows
or
DIR E:\windows

This will establish the proper drive letter for your Windows installation (which may not be C:!) - substitute that letter into the <drive> in the following commands (so it will read C: or D:)

Now use the following commands

<drive>:
cd \windows\system32\winevt\logs
del *.* /Q

Now you should exit the window - type
EXIT
and hit the enter key.
Click on the Restart button to reboot the computer.

wait 10 minutes, then try opening the Event Viewer....
Click on the Start button, and type
eventvwr
in the Search box - hit the enter key.

what happens?

If the Event Viewer opens properly without error, close it again, then try running another SFC /SCANNOW and see what happens.
If Event Viewer fails, what EXACT error message do you get??

Hi Noel,

I am trying to get to the 'Advanced Boot Menu' via tapping F8. The Asus EFI Bios Utility-EZ mode menu shows up, nothing to do with "repair my computer". Just things like quiet mode , power etc. I'm still trying... I'll report back soon. Sorry for the delay.

Hi Noel,

It appears DIR E:\windows is where I could do the commands. I followed them, rebooted etc, waited 10 mins, and when I typed "eventvwr", I still received the MMC error CLSID: FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}
in the event viewer.

Hi Noel,

Quick update...

I checked this morning, and update did not work. I tried when I got home, and suddenly there was something like 12 updates!!! I installed each one individually, and made note of the name of each update. The only update that will not install, either automatically or, downloaded and installed from the Microsoft site is: KB2785220 (error 80070005).

It appears that some headway has occurred!!! Yayyyy... I will see what I can find out about this patch, but I wanted to let you know that all of your work was not in vain!!

Thank you once again!!

Cheers,

Jim

Corsair Hydro Cooling H-100
I tried Windows Update troubleshooter; it states:
"An error has occured. While troubleshooting, an unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue"

I also tried to download "Microsoft Fixit". The same message appears (from above). I do not know if this helps, but, I thought I would let you know... I'll continue troubleshooting...
