Windows Update Failing - Error 80070308

Hi,

For the past 2-3 weeks any attempt at installing windows updates has been failing, with the error code 80070308. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, the updates currently trying to install are:

I've tried the generic solutions I've been able to find, Microsoft repair tools etc, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows thinks that it's still in the middle of installing an update of some kind.

Please do a Search in your Windows folder (and subfolders for any files 'pending.xml', and compress un upload all found

(there are no SFC or CheckSUR errors)

OK - try this...
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands


REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG DELETE HKLM\COMPONENTS /V PendingRequired

then reboot, and try Windows Update again.

Great - that's one of those fixes that I keep forgetting, as it only crops up once or twice a month.
