Solved Windows update fails (several problems detailed inside)

Hi. I had some recent problems with the Windows 10 option, although I didn't install it (I was pondering it), it made my system unstable, so I used a recovery point to revert everything.

However, now Windows Update is no longer working. At first, it would just hang while looking for the updates. I looked at the log, it mentioned error code 80243004 (Windows Update tray icon missing). So I ran all the Fix it tools available, the component reset tool, the agent update install, and whatever worked, the icon is now set up.

This fixed the error, but now I got a new error (DtaStor WARNING: Attempted to add URL). I tried downloading the system readiness tool, but it hangs when checking the installed updates. I tried using disk cleanup in safe mode, but the admin options are missing (I guess that update was uninstalled in the rollback and the standalone installer hangs when checking for installed updates).

Saw a suggestion somewhere to set the intelligent background transfer and windows update services to Automatic. Rebooted. OK, now Windows Update shows all the new updates. Tried to install them, they all show up as "failed" due to the 80243004 error (Windows Update tray icon missing - even though it's set up to display on the tray notification configuration). Not only that, if I run Windows Update again, it sometimes throws me a message saying there are no new updates available. Which is a lie, Windows, a lie!

I'm out of ideas. A little help?

Edit: What's stranger, even though nothing was installed, I rebooted again, ran Windows update, and now instead of 11 important updates + 2 optional, it lists only 5 important updates. Again, nothing was installed! I'm currently trying one last tip, renaming the softwaredistribution folder and running Windows Update again. But the log is showing the DtaStor warning again). Also, I noticed the Automatic Updates is gone from the Services list. Tried, as someone suggested, typing REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL on an elevated command prompt, says DLL is registered, rebooted, didn't work.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions
and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Hi. Sorry. Renaming the folder seems to have solved the problem, though it took a long time for Windows Update to finish the process. It seems to be back to normal, for now. Thanks.
