In the pond -of course!
Hi, was wondering if anyone could give guidance in trying to get Windows Update working properly in a friends old computer. Trying to restore from a 2yr old Macrium Image and using Portable Update to transfer updates from my laptop to his. The Last Windows Updates on the Image was 10-25-2014 before using Portable Update Offline.
Windows Updates from Portable Update's cache folder, up to Sept. 2016, appear to be successfully installed on 10-31-2016. I had to manually install Windows Update Client KB3138612-x64.msu in order for Portable Update to install them.
This is the only update I have manually installed to this point. Also looking at what updates where installed, I see that Portable Update did not install some of the updates in it's cache folder.
At this point, Windows update never finds updates which is what I expected, as Portable Update appeared to install updates in it's cache in a certain systematic order [ oldest required first etc. ] for this specific machine.
I have attached a CBS.zip file and sfcdetails.txt file if this helps.

Basic system specs on this machine:
HP xw4600 Workstation
Win7 Professional-SP1 - 64bit
Internet Explorer 10
Intel Core Duo CPU 2.53 GHz
6 GB Ram

Thank you for any help in advance.

Do a clean install by using nlite and add updates it will do it all for you in one go

Thanks for checking in samuria, I've never used nLite so not familiar with the process and getting WUs imported in one shot.

Hi samuria, thank you for the reference to nLite and looking further ntLite? Are these the links to them? nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation & https://www.ntlite.com/
Looks very interesting and will be downloading the programs to try out.
As for the Windows Updates issue, I guess I should clarify my current objective, update the computer I'm trying to restore from a 2yr old image to Sept. 2016 Windows update.
Me being an amature computer user on a steep learning curve with Windows Updates, I have been trying to fend off the GWX push by selectively not installing those patches. I know I need more info on what else is needed to get updated and Windows Update running but have a few questions as to what that might be, ie can this machine keep Internet Explorer 10? Update dependencies [what order the updates need to be installed?] does it need a service stack patch? All in what order? I know, too many questions, sorry.

Was hoping someone that would look at the machines basic specs & CBS.zip file for any suggestions.

Cheers!

Hi all, have since been getting Windows Updates coming in and have elected to get the monthly "Security Only Updates" however when I hid the first batch, had some more come in. If any gurus with more knowledge have any opinion since I already have KB3197867 manually installed, would I need any of these others?
See snip below and thank you in advance. :)
