Windows update: kb3046269 installs successfully many times

Okay, this is the third time I'm typing this, this is not my computer. When I tried to backspace out some text by highlighting and using backspace, the full posting went -poof- and gone. Twice. Bummer. So this will be short.

This computer is a Windows 7 Home Premier Edition, 64-bit. The update kb3046269 installs over and over again, and is "successful" each time. I've tried various things, including sfc /scannow (which noticed that kb3046269 was damaged, but didn't offer any help), repairing .Net 4.5.2, etc., and have researched this problem on the internet. Nothing helpful to me there.

I should note that otherwise, Windows Update on this computer is operating just fine, as far as I can tell. Updates are found and really installed successfully, except for kb3046269, that just says that its successful. It's a mystery to me why this one update should be such a problem child.

I think that I've also uploaded and attached the requested CBS.zip archive with the surt output.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions or help with getting this update installed.

Thanks!

Okay, I've hidden this update for the moment, so at least it won't install every time the system is shut down, but I suspect that if it doesn't get installed I'll get bitten downstream.

It looks like my next step is to get a new Windows 7 license and re-install. Maybe it'll be better the next time, if I do all the updates at one time.

I don't really understand why Microsoft doesn't have tools for this, this really isn't my problem, except that Microsoft makes it my problem.

This is one of the reasons why people go and buy Mac's. You pay more, but get support.

I agree. This kind of stuff drives people to other vendors.

Did you actually contact Microsoft for support?

Good question, no, I didn't contact Microsoft for support on the phone. I did use the internet a lot, though, and go through Microsoft online support resources and found nothing that helped. Just other people asking the same question, and unhelpful (to me) answers. I've spent a LOT of time with them on the phone in the past to no avail. Took me two days one time when I used the built-in Windows 10 "recovery/reset" install on a different desktop system and needed to get it re-activated after the install. It was activated before the install, but wouldn't activate after the install. After spending hours and hours on the phone with them and getting hung up on several times, they finally gave me a product key that activated my system properly. Bully for them.

Anyways, no, I didn't actually call them, just used their online resources. Don't have the time to spend on the phone *smile*.

I have found an OEM Windows 7 Pro license with media for $60. If a re-install doesn't fix it, I'll try upgrading to Windows 10 (which the system's owner doesn't want to do).

Hi,
The slogan is if it's too good to be true if often is too good to be true
I would not spend 60.us on a win-7 pro it is most likely no good

Win-7 pro typically runs 140.us at Newegg.com.... ;)

You are lucky. You seem to know when to quit calling them for help :-)

I have wasted many hours with them. Each person from their support staff started from the beginning and followed the same script of "fixes" that had failed during the last call. Each call got longer and longer (when they bothered to call at all).

I have yet to have their phone support staff actually fix a problem... but I keep hoping.

I point people to Apple products - if they can afford it. Sadly, Apple takes a very long time to issue security updates*. Some stuff just will not work for Apple users (e.g. some m3u8 streams). And Apple won't let certain apps be developed (e.g. Wi-Fi Analyzer). And Keynote presentations don't always play well on other Apple computers. And MS PowerPoint presentations created on a Mac and played on a Windows computer just suck (e.g. some transitions fail).

But, other than that, Macs, iPads and iPhones are great :-(

*one of many examples

Tep well I've seen recovery disks go for that much so be sure it's not a recovery disk and is a full installer = oem/ system builders channel ;)

Recovery cd's are useless.
Heck post a link to it ;)

It's not a recovery or repair disk, it's fully licensed install media. I've been around the block with this stuff before, and read and chose carefully.

Oh, and about wifi analyzer on iPhone. I have an old Samsung Galaxy S3 that I use for that, just use it on wifi. Also, iOS now has a little of this, their "Airport Utility" has a wifi scanner buried in it that isn't graphical, but it still lists all the wifi networks that it sees along with their strengths and other data about them. Not much, but better than nothing. Probably due to Steve Jobs no longer being with Apple.

So far, the AirPort Utility has not found any Access Points and I'm surrounded by them. I would like to be able to glance at a display and know what channel is the clearest.

I too keep an Android phone around just for the Wi-Fi analyzer.
