Windows Update Repeatedly Installs the Same Updates

I have encountered a Windows Update issue surrounding some Office updates (viz., KB2760411, KB2760583, and KB2760588). Update History records no installation failures ever and clearly shows these updates were successfully installed (current count 6 times). However, they constantly show up in the list of available updates, even after repeated reboots.

Have scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, using the latest database, and nothing was found.

Have executed Option 2 of How to Reset Windows Update in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

Have followed Windows Update Posting Instructions. Have executed SURT twice. SFC reports corrupt files it could not fix. See multiple failures reported in CBS.log (zip attached), but have no idea how to fix them.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

...are typical of a misguided attempt to 'clean up' the system to minimise the footprint.
However, it's unlikely that they affect system performance.

I'll post a fix for it a bit later.

I've uploaded a file - ccyaa.zip- to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print theseinstructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, starttapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of whichshould be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\ccyaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'NotFound' error try
DIR D:\ccyaa
or
DIR E:\ccyaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder willneed to be substituted (for<drive>) into the followingcommand...

XCOPY<drive>:\ccyaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)andwhen the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit CommandPrompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in anElevated Command Prompt
then reboot and attach the CBS.log file to your reply

Appreciate the patch and the excellent directions. Patch installed. SFC reported several successful repairs (see attached). Subsequent scan reported no integrity violations. Kudos for the assist!

Guess I'll wait for MS to resolve the update issue...

Interesting - SFC found a different file error, and corrected that itself!

mfds.dll is a DirectShow wrapper for Media Player.

The others, we'd replaced the proper 'backup files' and SFC found no problem with.

At least your system now should be able to update properly whatever MS manages to do at their end :)
