When I go to check for update windows updater gets stuck on an endless loop while checking. I have let it check for "hours" but it doesn't stop nor does it find any updates, I always have to use task manager to get it to stop. Any ideas on what could be the problem?

What Worked For Me

I subscribed to the forums to try to help out the next guy who searches for this. What worked for me was

Microsoft KB 959077

Something had removed all of my subkeys in the registry under Component Based Servicing
