Solved Windows updates continue to fail. Addnl new failure every month.

Hello,

I am looking for some help with Windows Update. I have 11 updates that fail every time I try to run them. Every month when Microsoft releases new updates, I will typically have at least one new update that fails and adds to my growing list of failures. I am on a Dell XPS8500 running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit SP1 on an Intel core i7-3770 @ 3.4GHZ processor.

I receive the Windows Update error 80073701 when the updates fail. I have attached a copy of the error along with the Windows Update history showing the 11 failed updates.

I followed the directions on this site and ran the SURT and SFC \Scannow, but afterwards, the updates still failed. The SFC scan completed without finding any integrity violations. I know you need the CBS log folder, but it was too large and your site would not allow me to upload it. I tried taking just the CBS.log file (which was 10MB zipped) and splitting it into two files, but even at 5 MB each, Windows 7 Forum still would not allow me to upload it. I know this file is critical to you helping me with my issue-- if you can give me a suggestion on how to upload it, I would obviously do so.

Any help with this issue would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not able to help you with your error, but I can help you with the upload problem. You can set up a free OneDrive or DropBox site for yourself now, upload your file there, "share" it per the site instructions to share the link, and then paste the link here.

I am a non-technical user and I was able to do exactly that today in order to share my files that were too big to upload. DropBox free gives you 2GB of storage while OneDrive free gives you 15GB of storage, but other than that I can't tell you which site would be better for you.

My bigger ZIP file was 171 MB - it included multiple CBS and CBSpersist logs, plus a bunch of other logs (the unzipped folder size was 650 MB). I found that setting up my DropBox site was straightforward and the upload of my bigger ZIP was very slow but that might be due to my own network, I can't say. Once it finally uploaded, all I had to do was pick the file and click on the "Share" button on the right, which brought up a popup window showing the link which I could copy and paste or choose to send to an email or text address.
