I open Windows updates and make it look for updates but it never finds any and never finishes searching as seen on this screenshot:
https://www.screencast.com/t/jwk1kM30Fq

This started to happen after there was a problem installing updates and I followed instructions in Microsoft Forums and deleted the Updates folder. I do not get any errors of updates failing to install because no updates are detected to install.

I used the Windows Update Readiness Tool (SURT) but it could not find any updates either. I took more than an hour and found nothing and got stuck searching. As seen here:
https://www.screencast.com/t/iLuTHWkRj

I also did the sfc / scannow tool and did not find anything as shown here:
https://www.screencast.com/t/xPtxOgmWG

Windows Update Diagnostics Tool gives this report:
https://www.screencast.com/t/7nSYyWlMvY8

A file with the logs from CBS folder can be downloaded from:

Hope you can help me.

Hi Robert,

You appear to be running a non-genuine version of W7, using a "lifted" product key.
The Bios for your machine is dated prior to the relaease of W7 and no SLIC table is present.

This forum does not support piracy therefor NO further help can be provided until a genuine product is installed.

Torchwood,
You say: "I appear...." This "appear" is like saying: I am not very sure. You cannot accuse
people in the way you do and not being very sure.
Well, I don't know how you get to this conclusion by looking at my BIOS.
Looks like you don't know much about computers and Operating Systems. Do you know that Windows 7 can be installed in computers with a BIOS older than the release of Windows 7? What's the connection? So long as the computer meets the requirements of the Operating system, you can install in any computer with any BIOS dated any year.
First, this computer is not that old.
Second, I bought a legitimate Windows 7 and I can prove it. This installation of Windows 7
passes any Windows Genuine Validation test and it's legitimacy is even confirmed by Microsoft that validated it online without any problem after installation.
Definitely NO. I did not install any illegitimate or pirated Windows 7. And I can prove it.
I could even get proof from Microsoft that this is a legitimate Windows 7 with a legitimate key.
No, absolutely NO. I did not "lifted" any software from anywhere. I PAID FOR IT!
And I could install it again and again on the same machine, and still get the installation approved by Microsoft.
By what you are answering to me, you don't seem to be very knowledgeable on Windows Operating Systems. Telling me that the BIOS is older than the Windows 7 ! How is it that you are giving advice or support here in this forum when you think this way?
Wouldn't it have been better to ask me first if my Windows was genuine, instead of coming to your own conclusion?
Also, I could (but I am not going to) show you the label with the legitimate key that came with my purchase.

Roy isn't here at the present time, so let me show you what is meant.

From your report here.

txt.gif
Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.txt (4.6 KB, 1 views)

I found this.

<Date>20060531000000.000000+000</Date>
Manufacturer>Hewlett
Windows License Type: COA SLP
The COA SLP means Windows 7 was activated by the builder of the computer in the factory before it was shipped.
A COA SLP can not be legally transfer to another computer. Legally it must stay with the computer it was first installed and activated.

It was made by Hewlett Pachard

The date of the bios says it was made by Hewlett Pachard in 2006.
There lies the problem.

How does Hewlett Pachard make a computer in 2006 with Windows 7; when Windows 7 didn't even come out until 2009.

The only version of Winsows 7 that can me moved from one computer to another is a full "Retail" version and then it can only be on one computer at a time. You do not have a "Retail" version according to the report you posted.

You very well might of bought a Windows 7 you thought was legal to use but that isn't what you installed. One must be very watchful; their are lots of crooks selling illegal Windows 7.

If you did have a "Retail" or "OEM Builders" COA key you could install it on a system with older bios date.

Does this explanation help you understand??

Have no doubt Roy does understand the logs very well.
A lot more than I do but like the rest of us, he is only human.
Please just wait for his reply.

Look, I bought a genuine Windows 7 that according to my purchase I can install in any computer I want, no matter how old it is.
HP did not install this Windows 7 that is at the computer right now. The computer did not come with ANY windows at all. It came with an empty hard disk because I bought it used. And yes, it is a retail Windows.
The reason why the BIOS / Windows itself may not be reporting the Windows it has is something that neither you nor I may know. I installed this Windows 7 myself . I bought this genuine Windows 7 and installed it and Microsoft validated it, approved it, how else can I say it. It's legitimate. It has been accepted by Microsoft as a GENUINE Windows. Do you want me to post here a Genuine Windows Test? What else can I say to prove that this Windows is genuine.
Look, I don't really care what the BIOS logs may say. What I care is that I know I bought this Windows and Microsoft validated it as genuine. All the rest are speculations.

Where did you buy the Windows 7 and it's COA key.

Your used computer did not come with a system installed. That is okay.
What the log shows is you have installed a system and it COA key that does not belong on that computer.

Your log shows that you did not install a "Retail" versions of Windows 7.
You have SLP COA key which means it is not "Retail"

I bought this Windows on Ebay. And got a legitimate COA key and again, Microsoft validated it. And this can be proved.
Surely the COA key does not belong to this computer. It is a new key from a new Windows 7. Not the original that was installed
when HP built it. As to the SLP not showing Retail, I am not sure it should show it. Besides, don't you think that Microsoft would not have validated this Windows if it were not genuine. How do you explain the validation? Windows never reports it's not genuine. So, even if Windows / BIOS is not reporting Retail Windows , we cannot conclude it is not genuine. Why those logs don't report it as Retail (wonder if the logs ever mention if the Windows installed is Retail, I think I never saw this word.) I cannot say. But I can assure that if I install this Windows in another computer (not in two at the same time) it will be validated as genuine. Again, shall I post here a report from the Windows Genuine Validation Tool? Because if you don't believe in this tool, there is not much left we can talk about.

I have yet been unable to run KB971033. It runs searching for updates and finds none. I may eventually re-install Windows and recover the update functionality. Then I'll be able to install this update that checks windows genuine.
And so I'll be able to post here results. Only by then I will have the updates problem resolved and will
not need your help anymore.

On the other hand, even if this Windows was previously installed in another computer and then sold to me, that does not mean counterfeit or pirated. I can take any Windows that was installed in any computer and remove it from that computer and install it in another. It will validate as genuine because it is. And will remain valid so long as I install in only one computer.

I tried to install Update KB97103 that checks for Genuine Windows and any counterfeits or hacks to Windows>
This is the response I get when trying to install
https://www.screencast.com/t/brA5krjT7
So. this is already in the computer and Windows continues reporting it's activated and Genuine as shown here:
https://www.screencast.com/t/dn5DXzEJr6l
If there is any other way to prove to you that I am running a legitimate Windows? , let me know. I don't mind running any other test. In any case I am done: WINDOWS UPDATE IS BACK TO NORMAL AND WORKING FOR ME, and this thanks to the Microsoft page I found above.

And by the way, I made this simple search on Google and found this result. Is it wrong?
https://www.screencast.com/t/HQPRDhVYriO
Which is exactly what I get. So..... I don't care if the logs tell you anything else, for me this is enough proof that I am running Genuine Windows and not a Counterfeit copy.
But, if you are happy with what the logs say.... be my guest.
