Hello,
I have windows 7 ultimate and think my registry has been damaged. I was on my computer and there were some windows updates that were going to be updated. I hit the postpone button and then my mouse wasn't working. So I hit the restart button and I saw some message on the Windows 7 welcome screen say some about the registry. When Windows loaded, quite a few of my icons were gone and files that I had downloaded within the last day or so. When I go to start the menu is completely blank aside from all programs

I've tried the following.
Last known good configuration
log into safe mode (no difference)
uninstall the Windows updates (no difference)
System restore wasn't enabled

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Brian

I ran Windows restore from Windows desktop and it recovered things. Even though it said it failed. Must have done enough. Thanks Guys anyhow

How do you get Windows 7 to show a (postpone button)?

Sure, I have Windows automatic updates enabled. So today I got a pop-up saying Windows will install updates in 14 minutes (something like that, timewise). I was busy doing other things, so there is a postpone button and lets you select the period of time. I chose four hours.

What actually happened was when I restarted my computer and there was Windows updates ready to go. Some of them failed and I think altered the registry. Not real sure.. So I uninstalled the Windows updates and chose the system restore from the desktop. It ran for a bit and miraculously my desktop and files came back. Even though the system restore said failure to restore your files. I have since updated my PC with the latest updates and everything seems all good. Hopefully my experience will help others if they run into the same issue.
Best regards,
Brian
