Windows will not load, Continuous boot to System Recovery partition.

My computer seems to be stuck in a loop. I cannot figure out how to get windows to boot. Every time I turn my computer on, whether I try to boot normally, to safe mode, etc. all I get is the System Recovery partition. It will attempt to do an automatic startup repair, and then display a window that says "Startup Repair could not detect a problem."

"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance."

The only USB device that is plugged into my computer is the bluetooth adapter for my Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. I even tried taking that out and starting my computer, but I get the same thing happening.

I can't get windows to boot at all and I am very frustrated. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try removing all external devices, and then running a startup repair from the Windows DVD or repair disc.

You can also try a system restore from the disc as well, if the repair doesn't work. You may have to run the repair a few times.

I have tried running a startup repair with NOTHING plugged in, including the adapter for my keyboard/mouse, and it just keeps doing the same thing.... it cannot find the error. I've also tried system restores from up to 2 weeks ago, and to no avail as well.

I have no other external devices plugged in? This is very odd.

I think I'm closer to about 10 now.... it says it can't fix the computer automatically. It doesn't know why windows won't load.

I should also mention I've done startup repair both with the recovery partition AND with my Windows 7 Pro 64bit disk.

Try opening a command prompt from the Windows DVD or repair disc, and run the following:

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /rebuildbcd

See if that helps.

Before the issue there was no indication of a problem. I had my computer off for about a 6 day period, and when I went to turn it back on, it went through a CHKDSK. I allowed it to go through this and finish, and when it had, it went into a cycle of booting to the System Recovery Partition, attempting a startup repair, and being unsuccessful in discovering the problem.

I have done numerous system restores, but to no avail. I did do a windows update recently before this issue happened, but the computer rebooted then without issue.

It sounds like a hard disk problem, but that is getting beyond my realm of knowledge.

For now, all I can suggest is opening a command prompt from the disc, and running chkdsk /r.

1) Boot DVD, & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)

Open an command prompt.
In the command prompt, type chkdsk C: f/x/r/v and press Enter.
