Solved Windows won't Boot & Boot Manger Issue

Hi Everyone,

Yet again it seems I've been defeated by Windows and need help.

Recently, I decided to back up my whole system and to my surprise the Boot Manager was installed on a different drive than C. I attempted to move the Boot Manager to the C drive using EasyBCD but kept getting an error message "Operation Not Allowed..."

As I couldn't find a solution to the error message I then used EasyBCD to Reset BCD Configuration and created new entry to make sure the system boots properly.

In the BIOS setting I made sure the system was now booting from the correct C drive. However, the system won't boot. Instead it just goes straight to BIOS. When trying to boot from the previous drive I get a black screen with a message to use installation CD with a System Repair.

As you guessed, the System Repair doesn't work and various solutions I found online using Command Prompt had no success either (bootrec /rebuildbcd; formatting EFI partition and rebuilding Boot Manger there etc.).

So far I've tried most solutions related to the issue I could find here and elsewhere and I feel like I'm out options. If you guys have any ideas or solutions I would really appreciate your help. Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance!

Hello Artur92

I assume, from your Specs, that you are not dual booting with Windows 10.

The first thing you need to establish is if your "boot drive" is marked as an "active" partition.

Then you need to find out if the partition is formatted as MBR or GPT.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. When I try to make my Windows partition Active using Diskpart I get a message:

The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can only be used on a fixed MBR disks.

Diskpart also indicates that the hard drive is formatted as GPT when using list disk command.

Post a screenshot of disk management window and aomei partition manager

Boot media:
17514x64v15.iso

extract the iso to usb stick using View attachment Usb7ice.zip

Boot from the usb stick. It contains explorer, disk mgmt, lots of other stuff. Camera icon on the taskbar can take screenshots.

You can't boot into the OS
Therefore you will need boot media to identify and fix the issue. Has to be downloaded/created on a working pc.

What are you using for your diskpart commands?

How are you posting on here?

Is your system drive a Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT?

Try this
- Detach all other drives from the MB (SATA or power cable)
- Boot from the Win 7 installation disk (If your system drive is a Legacy-MBR, boot the Win 7 installation as legacy. If your system drive is a UEFI-GPT, boot the Win 7 installation as UEFI)
- Go to repair and do a Boot repair.

It is UEFI-GPT. I did as instructed but the same thing happens - it boots straight to BIOS. Any other ideas?

Can you be more specific - "it boots straight to BIOS".
Did it open the BIOS GUI or it says it cant find the boot loader.
Under BIOS, check the priority boot loader. Is it from your Windows disk?

It opens BIOS GUI and the priority loader the disk with Windows installatoion was the first option.

However, since I couldn't really find any solution for about a week I reinstalled Windows on a new hard drive and upgraded to Windows 10.
