Hey guys, I am having an issue where I am trying to update to the latest ATI drivers which are 10.12 released 12/13/2010. I go into device manager and find my video card (ati 5850) and when I try and update my drivers it says the correct one is already installed. Problem is these drivers are outdated (8.791). I have tried to uninstall these drivers and install the new ones from the website but the new ones will not install. I do not get any installation errors trying to install the new ones, but after I install them I go to device manager and it still lists the old ones as being the current drivers. Another issue I'm having is when I uninstall the drivers from device manager, it uninstall the whole card as well. I hit the "detect new hardware" and it finds my card and immediately downloads the older drivers and I cannot stop this process. I disabled windows from automatically updating drivers and it still downloads the drivers after the card and drivers get uninstalled. This is extremely frustrating, I have no idea what else I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I am running win7 64bit.

Hello there, Rynzo, according to what i read, 8.791 on the device manager is the latest version:

THE DRIVER VERSION 8.791.0.0 APPEARS TO BE THE LAST DRIVER THAT SUPPORTS ATI OVERDRIVE WHICH WAS IN 10-11.........

So i guess there's no problem with your Drivers.. if you're not completely satisfied, you could run Driver Sweeper (after uninstalling ATI Drivers) and install them again :D

Right, the issue is when I uninstall the driver from device manager, It deletes the whole card off my system as well. So when I detect new hardware, windows finds my card and then installs the older 8.0 drivers automatically and I cannot stop it. Is there a way I can uninstall the drivers without deleting the video card hardware off my system?

The version of catalyst and the driver version are not the same.
Meaning when you download cat 10.12, you don't get driver version 10.12.

The latest version of Catalyst Software Suite is 10.12. It includes AMD Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center, both v8.801.

If you want to install only Display Driver 8.801, you can download the file separately from here -- just go to Individual Downloads, if the link doesn't open there, and download only Display Driver. When it's finished downloading, go to Device Manager>Display Adapters, click on Proparties, select Driver, then Update Driver. Then choose "Browse my computer for driver software", select the file you have downloaded from AMD's website, and it should update your driver without problems.

However, as mentioned in the release notes of Catalyst Software Suite 10.12, installing only display driver is not recommended. So you better download the whole CSS 10.12, uninstall your old one, reboot, and then install the new one and reboot again.

Your driver version is also displayed in CCC, you will be able to check if it's 8.801 there.

Windows 7 won't P/U new drivers

Same problem as previous but none of solutions proposed work. Keeps picking up ATI driver ver 8.632.1.2000 dated 8/17/2009 and ATI advised the 12-3 update is driver 8.951 which refuses to install. I am a tech and have tried all the comon tricks of the trade to include disconnecting from Internet with old drivers and software uninstalled then install newest driver. Windows still picks up either the old driver or the old "Microsoft" driver. Any ideas?
