hey all

i have a problem in win 7 on 2 different comp...on 2 dif wireless(an atheros laptop wireless and an atheros usb)

i can setup an ad hoc connection with internet no problem....works like a charm but...

if the server computer enters to sleep....after resume....the ad-hoc doesnt work anymore...only sais "identify.." and doesnt work anymore....

need to make another new ad-hoc connection to make it work

the ad-hoc connection is saved so i can use it another time....but once disconnected i can never reconnect to make it work... :(

i know the ad-hoc network its a temprary connection...but why bother to save it if it doesnt work afterwards

the command << netsh wlan connect name=Profile2 ssid=SSID2 interface="Wireless Network Connection"
>> works smooth but its in vain if the connection is not working after reconnect..

i said before its not working on s3....but not working on restart either....not even working if i disconnect the host PC and connect it again....cant really reconnect...

any ideas ?....

ps: the router is not a solution

thx

You should be using the wireless connection setup wizard in Windows 7 to set up those wireless connections. For Windows 7 computers I would also use Homegroup networking.

There are certain elements of sharing that probably won't work correctly if you use ad-hoc.

The sleep mode wireless adaptor problem is widespread and will probably or hopefully get fixed with driver updates. Anthros may have one now if you look for it, new drivers are showing up daily on some sites. You might need to disable sleep until a newer driver shows up that fixes the problem.

u guys didnt fully understaind....

the sleep problem is one disconnect problem

the most important problem is....that if i disconnect the server comp from the ad-hoc network and reconnect it again...without restarting or anything.....the ad-hoc saved network i made wont work at all afterwards on the satellite computer

i can only create a new ad-hoc to make it work again

this is what i dont understaind....

Temp solution is to disable sleep on the server until a better driver comes along.

dont really care about the sleep for now....

more concerned about not being able to reconnect the network after i disconnect

i just hit disconnect....then a few seconds later i hit connect(to the ad-hoc i created) and the internet and network sharing its not working for the other machines...

in my server machine sais my wireless is broadcasting internet acces....but they dont have any internet or network

im very skeptic about new drivers for my hardware....i have the latest one ...and its from 2007...so if they didnt get anything better for almost 3 years....i dont think they will optimize a driver now....

cheers and merry x-mass

I'm gonna try this disconnection of adhoc.

I create a wireless adhoc off my W7, which is now using LAN to access the internet. I'll have my eeepc connected to this adhoc network. I will then shutdown W7 and restart it. So then question is, can i still connect to my adhoc from my eeepc, right?

Update: adhoc connected saved. Restarted W7 and adhoc disconnects. Had to manually reconnect it (by clicking on the "Connect" button). It connects and waiting for users...On my eeepc, the network is picked up and i connect. no problems.

So really the adhoc just need to be re-established after a restart of machine/shutdown etc.

try this :

create a new shortcut
pot this on its adress :
netsh wlan connect name=WirelessProfileName ssid=AdhocSSID interface="Wireless Network Connection Name"

wireless profile name = ur wi-fi name
adhocSSID = ur ssid
wireless network connection name = ur wi-fi connection name as is shown in "network connections" in control panel

eg:
netsh wlan connect name=mywi-fi ssid=mywi-fi interface="Wireless Network Connection"

put this shortcut in startup....and it will work like a charm

tip: try to give to ur adhoc a name without spaces....if u put spaces in ur adhoc name put it in "..."

so far this is the only way i know to make ur adhoc start and connect at restart

Good info for furture references...i haven't got the need to use adhoc though :(

i have the same problem i am using an ad-hoc network between my file 'server' and laptop. I use ICS (internet connection sharing) on a dummy dial-up connection to trick the 'server' to run as a DHCP and a bridged Ethernet connection to my desktop PC. I find I have to disconnect from the network on both the 'server' (which requires using remote desktop on my desktop PC, i do not want to have to do this) and the laptop then reestablishing the network on the 'server' followed by the laptop

is there a way to allow me to disconnect and reconnect without turning the whole network off then on

network map

(--Desktop PC--)
-Ethernet-
||
||
(----||-----File 'Server'----------------------) (------Laptop-----)
-Ethernet- Network Bridge -Wireless (Ad-hoc)-)))))-Wireless (Ad-hoc)-

that should give you an idea of the network layout
i will not disable the network bridge (tried it same problem) or use a router as i shouldn't need one for a LAN (for those who never networked before vista/7 a LAN is a network does not require the internet to function, it is a simple computer to computer/device network, NO INTERNET!!) also i am using WPA2 Personal and i would like this to remain a secure network thus the no internet on this network

P.S.
i need to disconnect/reconnect to this ad-hoc network as i have a separate internet enabled network and I'd like to keep network separation if possible
