At the topic title says my wireless internet is cutting off every few mins. It then tells me that i have no wireless card connected but if i look in device manager it shows i have one.

To get the internet working again i have to unplug the usb drive from the computer and plug it back in and it works fine for another few mins.

maybe it's switching itself off to save power.

right-click on the adapter in device manager >> properties >> power management >> untick boxes.

hope this helps!

First thing I would check is NIC driver, the usb, and the router firmware. You may even have to un-install the nic driver and let win update find one for you.

Second IP-6 support sometimes causes this so you can disable ip-6 support.
there are also several threads here at SF that have the same problem that might help

I have uninstalled the driver and then allowed windows to install it on its own and i thought it worked but its now started to cut out again.

I am unsure on how i do the second step, please could you give me some steps on doing it.

Hey ChrisM

Ip-6 support. right click network icon in sys tray. click open network and sharing. In network click on change adapter settings. right click the adapter and click properties.
Uncheck IP-6. you may have to reboot

Done the above and its still stopping every few mins. I have also found out that i can just troubleshoot the device and it fixes it but it still needs fixing!

This network adparter works perfectly for windows vista.

There have been several threads on this and similar problems. I have had real hair pulling issues with both wired and wireless connections.
It is a driver problem - that's clear from the fact that you have issues in Win 7 but not in Vista.
The best solution as I have found is to go to the website for the offending device and install the latest driver after a complete uninstall in Windows. You may then as I did have to play with a number of options including enable, disable, etc. The good news is that with persistence the problem can be solved. I wish I could give you a straightforward solution but I haven't found it yet.
At present I am stable with either wire or wireless.
Good luck.

Gene is of course right. It is a driver issue. One thing you can do is to go into device manager (type device manager into search) and right click the wifi device to see if it is installed and working properly. Another thing is to go into event viewer (yeah type event viewer into search) ans see if there are any errors logged relevant to wifi. If there are could you use the snipping tool (in search) to tske a snip and upload it to us.

Belkin F5D8053 N Wireless USB adaptor Windows 7

Belkin do not yet have a Windows 7 driver for the F5D8053 (Nov09) - they say they are waiting for Microsoft to certify the drivers! Sounds like an excuse for not doing anything to me. Belkin's Vista version driver will load OK but locks up after a while. However Ralink Technology (the RT2870 chipset manufacturer used inside Belkin products) do have a combined driver that does Windows 2000 to Win7 32/64 inclusive (came out in Sept 09)
Click on this link Ralink corp. to go to the Windows download page from Ralink Tech Support.

Download the full package (which includes the driver), but when it comes to installation, choose the "install driver only" (second option).
Having failed to get the F5D8053/Belkin drivers to work for more than two minutes in beta versions of Win7, I've been sucessfully using this Ralink driver from beta 7077 through to full retail.

Belkin have at last released Microsoft certified drivers for Win7. These work fine and are easier to install than the Ralink chipset drivers (above). The same drivers apply to US and UK.

This actually fixes the problem.

1) Untick the box for power management in your driver settings
2) (this is what I did - Airlink101 usb wifi) Installed the driver that came with the device
3) read somewhere that Adobe products are causing the problems I have the CS3 suite installed, I ran msconfig and turned off the flexnet licensing and the adobe autorun programs. I have been running good for about an hour without a disconnect.

This is really annoying when you have a voip phone that keeps on disconnecting becuase of the dropped connection. Just like a cell phone sometimes. I fixed the problem I think.

Give it a try.
