Wireless n connection with new router help/info needed

Wireless n connection with new router
I had to update my modem from comcast to get the new speeds for my tier. (no charge). I got the new motorola modem SB 6120 I bought, works great if connected directly 30mbps up and 10mbps down. I also bought a newer linksys router model type n-g-b Linksys By Cisco WRVS4400N Gigabit Switch Wireless VPN security Router. Got that hooked up with 4 pcs connected and my laptop. The problem Im having is the laptop is still showing 54mbps connection meaning type G connection.
I cant seem to get the type n connection working.

Laptop is a Dell E6250 Lattitude with the Intel Centrino Advanced -N 6250 wireless card.

I went into the device manager to look at the card installed and all drivers are up to date.

When I looked at the wireless card device manager-advanced-wireless mode there is no selection to select the n mode.

Is there any settings I am missing to have my laptop receiving n speed.

Again if I connect to modem direct 30mbps direct, through the router 10mbps no n speed.

Hi,

Not really my area, but I have almost the same network card, a 6200. If I check that in Device Manager, tab "Advanced" and look at setting "802.11n Mode", I can see it's enabled.

But there are also other settings involved to get the n connectivity. Intel has a page that describes this: Wireless Networking — What are the Recommended Settings for 802.11n Connectivity?

I checked my regular pc connections connected to the router and they are faster on the inet speed test so the router is working with the pcs hooked up. Its just the laptop connected wireless that is not connected to the n speed.
Im hoping to get this set up so the laptop will see the faster speed that im suppose to get with the router.

Can you go to your Wireless Network Connection status and see what Windows reports on the speed?

Already did that and it shows 54mbps like my old router that was a linksys wrt54g g router. So there is no change in the laptop wireless its 54mbps.

I'm kinda lost in getting this to see something better than the 54mbps wireless.

So, is the 802.11n mode enabled on advanced Wireless settings as provided by Tookeri? Wireless mode is only for turning off 2.4 or 5 GHz radios for Intel NICs.

If it's enabled on the device manager settings, it's the router that isn't properly configured.

Per manual PDF of the router you provided, go to "Wireless" ->
Wireless Network Mode ->
N-Only
(description—Only Wireless-N client devices can be connected at Wireless-
N data rates with a maximum speed of 300Mbps.)

Go to channel settings and Set wireless channel to 1

Then go to Wireless security -> select WPA-2 Personal -> type your favorite password and save

Go to
Wireless > Advanced Settings

Channel Bandwidth -> select 40 MHz
Guard Interval set to -> Auto for stability

Go to
Wireless > VLAN & QoS

Enable U-APSD and enable WMM
Power cycle the router and reconnect your device. Check and see if you get speeds above 54 Mbps.
Hope this finally works since this is how mine is setup on my wireless-ac router

I could not find the setting on my router but everything was changed to your settings


Go to
Wireless > VLAN & QoS
Enable U-APSD and enable WMM

I changed everything else and show better than 54mbps.

Now when i do a internet speed test its slower than the settings i had set.

regular pc wired to router 17mbps down
6.04 up

laptop now7.5mbps down
6.5mbps up

laptop before your settings
10.5mbps down
5.6mbps up.

Should not my speed be almost the same as my pc or at least the settings i had before i changed to yours.

Again want to thank you for your help Im getting closer but i think my down and up speed should be close to what my wired speed is.

Wireless speed per windows is showing that you're running wireless-n which solved your question " cant seem to get the type n connection working."

The speed is now saying 243 Mbps which is clearly N-spec but the speed test is showing 7.5 Mbps. I would suggest to have another wireless device, preferably with n capability and test if you get all the speed. If the other device gets full speed, router isn't the fault and your Intel 6250 might be defective or that the newer drivers aren't any good.

Thanks again for the reply. I might uninstall the drivers and then reinstall the driver and see if that works.
Unfortunately i do not have anything else that is type n for test to see if the speed is faster.
I might buy another adapter card also and replace but im sure there is nothing wrong with the intel centrino advanced 6205 card.
