Hello.

I've just got a brand new laptop (Sony Vaio). I'm trying to connect to the internet through my existing home wireless network which a Macbook, Macbook Air, Toshiba Windows 7 laptop and iMac in the house can all connect to and access no problems.

I've got an ADSL modem set up in bridge mode and an Airport Extreme as router and wireless access point.

I can connect to the router fine. I am assigned an IP address fine.

When I open a browser window the internet is very slow or times out.

When I ping the router it usually times out or I get a very high ping.

I've tried so many things to fix it I'm getting desperate! including:

Disabled and uninstalled firewall and security software
Changed wireless channels
Disabled Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
Setup a static ip and specified dns server

All to no avail!

I would really appreciate any help in solving the issue!

Here are my ipconfig and ping results:

maybe the deviices are not fully compatiable with each other and casuing problems.. have you tried just running a cable from your modem to the router...it shouldnt need to be set up in bridge mode if you only have one router and not needing to extend your range...unless i have read your situation wrong...but maybe try just setting up the airport as a normal router without being in bridge mode etc and report back on your results..thanks

I've tried running a cable between modem and pc and can connect to the internet fine with great speed. I haven't tried connecting to the router directly thought. I'll have to give that a go.

I have the modem in bridge mode because it's capable of routing and if both the modem and router are 'routing' it causes problems. I've tried running the wireless router in bridge mode and the modem as the router and have the same problems.

Do you think it's a compatibility issue between my wireless adapter and the Airport Extreme? All drivers and firmware are up to date.

Welcome to SF,

Try changing the Wireless Mode from your Router. By default it's on Mixed Mode, change it to B/G, G or N.
Test each Mode, find out which you works best for your connection.

Please let us know.
