Update:
Success-ish (Unfortunately I now get blue screen crash dum during install!)
This video worked for the hard drive issue at least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4ilMAAk1Q8

Original post:
Having problems installing Windows 7 It tells me to format to GPT - I've done that.
I've also messed around with all the bios settings I can find - Nothing helped
Can anyone please tell me how on earth to install this OS ?!

I've formatted, converted to GPT, Run Legacy mode only, tried ACHI only etc.
I've gone into disk management, and made it a new primary drive, then it lets me select the drive, but then it says ' Unable to create or local system partition files' Jesus christ...
IT WILL NOT LET ME INSTALL!

I tried to install on a HDD, and also got the same problem. So I think it's a bios issue - But I've changed everything I can there !

I had windows 10 in there before... did it mess up my bios or something?
Thanks

When I have problems like this I use a DISKWIPER from spotmau course other would / might work. Also I let windows do its automatic formatting after that. Maybe this will work ? I know its fixed problems several times for me when I could not get a SSD to accept a restore from disk clone file. Or when I could not clone to it often I would diskwipe it and it would then work.

Welcome to the Forum

Your Thinkpad X230 is quite old and you should have no problem to install win 7.
You must set BIOS properly.
- Fast boot and secure boot must be disabled.
- Sata must be set to AHCI.

There are two ways to install Win 7 64. Legacy - MBR or UEFI - GPT.
- During POST, launch boot menu. There will be two options to boot the win 7 installation disk: Legacy or UEFI.
Choose the one you want, go to install - Advanced - delete all partitions - Create new
It will create different types under Legacy or UEFI
Legacy
- MS reserved - 120M - RAW
- Big NTFS

UEFI
- UEFI - 100M - Fat32
- MS reserved - 120M - RAW
- Big NTFS

Choose to install on the big NTFS partition.

Sorry for late reply. I thought it was not a good idea to wipe SSD's?

And what does POST mean?
Thanks
