Solved WUDFRd.sys Causing Errors Awakening From Sleep

Hi, recently I've been having problems on my new laptop, when it goes to sleep after being idle for a time. The screen stays blank despite the HDD working, etc. I found that these errors were being caused by WUDFRd.sys, located in C:\windows\system32\drivers.

I have tried deleting the driver, to see if that fixes the problem, but windows will not allow me to delete it, or change permissions. Presumably it considers the driver to be essential, but how can this be if it's causing these problems? Te driver is digitally signed by Microsoft, so surely it must be safe? I do not know if it is related to BSOD problems I'm having from ew_jubusenum.sys, installed with an internet dongle I purchased in Italy (HUAWEI mobile partner), or if it is a completely separate problem.

Please, can somebody help mw with this, as it's driving me a little nuts. I only just got the laptop a month ago, so would love to have it running smoothly!

I think WUDFRd.sys is an UDF filesystem driver Windows uses to read CDs/DVDs formatted as UDF. It shouldn't normally give you any trouble, but you can disable this driver through Device Manager, most likely it will be located under Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Note that you will first have to enable Show hidden devices in the View menu.

As you're already found out, you can't simply delete .sys driver files since they're referenced through the registry. Device Manager lets you disable or uninstall them. (Of course uninstalling is permanent and should be used very carefully)

Done all that but after 10 minutes checking the properties of various entries under " Non-Plug and Play Drivers" without success can't find "WUDFRd.sys"

Did you find which devices this was in the Device Manager? I suspect it is the SD card. I have the same problem and am living with the Microsoft problem (TYPICAL!) as I don't want to disable my SD.

Identical problem as posted, and identical screenshot as DOHOUCH, except that mine shows 'CRUZER' (thumbdrive) as cause. I would appreciate if the solution has been found, or perhaps an effective next step in the correct direction.

I'm still looking around for what exactly WUDFRd does, But fwiw;

Lenovo laptop here, i3/64bit showing the WUDFRd error along with eventid 1001 Ethernet not assigned ip by dhcp & eventid 1530's memory leaks, pointing to the memory card reader mostly.

Refresh installed w8 same errors, wipe the partitions and reinstall win8, same exact errors.

'Programs & Features' showed Windows Driver Package - Lenovo WUDFRd ,,, so I uninstalled it there.

Same errors again except no WUDFRd error of course .. Then after reinstalling the memory card drivers... no errors at all. Seeing zero admin errors, no warnings.. totally clean at restarts now.

But I still don't know enough about the 'Windows Driver Package - Lenovo WUDFRd.sys' its a Microsoft product, but was it installed by win8 or lenovo driver reinstalls ? Kind of like to try replacing it now to see if the errors come back,, if its needed?

This driver is made for removable media and some usb sticks, photo devices, SD cards.

Microsoft prompt to not disable this service in Administration Tools=>Services=>Windows Driver Foundation=> Set to automatic and should be started.

The WUDFUsbccidDriver.dll should be in the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\UMDF\...
along those two one WpdFs.dll & WpdMtpDr.dll.

Registry settings got to be there aswell for those .dll (please refer to screenshot).

But this is talking Windows 7 x64bits

I spoke to the build of my computer and he suggested the driver be rolled back. Many times, Microsoft will download drivers in their updates and they are for many brands, not necessarily yours. Suggested geting the correct driver from the manufacturer.
