I have my system set up so that the OS and imortatnt programs are on the C: drive (SSD) and all insignificant programs and files go to the D: drive (WD Black)
I installed XP mode with no problems but I notice that when in XP mode there is a virtual C: drive along with the regular system C: drive.

Question is, when in Virtual PC is this reading and writing a lot to my SSD? If so is there a way I can change it? I'd rather not wear out my SSD.

Thanks, Rich

Where is the XP mode virtual hard drive? That is where it will write it's data. The fact it it's drive letter is C: is of no consequence. The host OS and and virtual machines it is running have completely independent views of what the C: drive is.

Wearing out an SSD is not a serious concern anymore. Most likely it will be replaced because it is too small or too slow before it wears out.

OK, if it not a concern, I wont worry about it. But is there a time during the SP Mode setup that you can point it to a specific drive? I need to quite hitting the default buttons when installing stuff.

During the XP Mode install you will have the option to chose where it goes. By default it will be the same drive as the host. If you have more than one drive you have to watch these things.

Thanks for the help guys! I went back and un-installed and then re-installed on the D: drive.. All seems to be working fine.
