Hello group.

I would like to know if anyone knows if the site Home | Zversity also provides free certificate at the end after enrolling and ending a course on their site. I want to take a course but not sure if i will get a certificate at the end.

When it comes to any form of education course certificates, the most important factor in their worth is who issues them.

Any certificate issued by the educational establishment running the course are not worth very much in the outside world.

You need the establishment that issues certificates of completion or graded pass certificates to be recognised widely in their particular field, These agencies must be part of a national education system or some form of industry association that results in a grading system that applies to all or a great number of those obtaining certificates from multiple different training schools

In basic terms the certificates issued must be from an accredited establishment, who also issue certification to a large proportion of those wanting certification in a particular subject independent of the school running the course.

Well, of course, IT means "Information Technology".
I've worked in that basic field since 1964, but within that field there are more branches than I can number.


Over the past 50+ years, I've amassed the equivalent of FIVE engineering degrees, in my own Work Experience, without the first piece of paper to prove any of it. And without the degrees, I was reduced to running my own Computer Business, building and servicing PC's. Now, at 77, I'm still taking PC Service calls.

So, I have to ask.....what do you do now, and exactly what do you want to do in the future?
Be specific, if you can.
I've worked with IT managers, who didn't know the difference between a transistor and a jelly bean.

This would be so simple, if only we could just sit down together, over some refreshment, and talk it out. But, it looks like you're too far away to make that possible, unless you're planning a trip to Florida.

Self taught is a good thing, practical learning is the kind that stays with you ... I am mostly self taught except for some highly specialised systems control software, where I went to the training and then trained our engineers, all of who were graduates, now those guys knew their stuff, but because of this they were always busy.

One thing I recall I needed a recognised National qualification in Network Systems design, for a particular job (Client company rules), so I took a couple of weeks off and took the Standard and Advanced exams, and came away with a Pass with distinction in both. Best thing was that each of the courses was supposed to be eight weeks long, I spent about 14 days including the exams to complete it

You guys sound like you have a lot of years of experience and that's really cool. Myself I want to fix computers, hardware and software. Like i want to troubleshoot and find solutions.

I also want to try out other things just to have a bit of extra knowledge and be flexible. My main goal is to become a Support Technician or something like that but a flexible one by flexible means i would be able to understand other things related to IT.

I'm also interested in programming but I am keeping it for later as I have to learn more about Digital Marketing before.

So basically Hardware and Software first then Digital Marketing and then Programming.

I have paid for a Testout PcPro course but it is not working at the moment they told me that they were updating something....

You want to start with A+ certification first, then move on to other things. I can't vouch for this site, but seems promising. (IT) Information Technology Certifications | CompTIA IT Certifications

For C++, you WILL need the book, believe me. I for one can't remember all the code possibilities without a book. Especially Linux terminal commands.

You're gonna need to know your math.

I guess what I forgot to say, is that I spent almost three+ years in Corporate training centers, for NCR, Xerox, and ITT Servcom, and several weeks at training seminars for Epson Corp, at different locations around the country.

I learned how to repair lots of different equipment, most of which is either in a land fill someplace, or the Smithsonian.

Most everything has been replaced by computerized POS (Point of Sale) terminals, etc.


There was NO school for Personal Computers, (PC's) so I had to teach myself, and pick up tidbits of info from the internet, when it finally came along. I've spent 40 years now, developing the tips and tricks that I use when setting up a new computer, or tuning up an older computer.

For basic hardware and software support, there is always the old way, find a small repair shop and offer to help the owner with the basic jobs, This site can help you with the basics of software and hardware support - once you have a little experience you can look into more formal training.

One thing with the basics, at this time you would be better off concentrating on Windows 10 rather than Windows 7. whatever your personal thoughts are on Windows 10 it is the future of mainstream operating systems

Grab a DOS book, if you can find one. MS DOS 6.22 was the last version issued before Windows showed up.
Most so-called Experts today, don't even know, realize or care that Under Windows is DOS, just working it's buns off. Windows is nothing more than a fancy GUI (graphic user interface) for DOS.
(DOS=Disk Operating System)
I still use many DOS commands today, mostly in Batch files, to do Data Backup and other simple jobs.
You can't really become an expert at Windows, without first knowing at least a few DOS commands. The more the better.

The change with the way that DOS works came with NT, where it is true that the old versions of Windows used to run on DOS this stopped with NT which runs natively and runs DOS as an application, the last windows to run on top of dos was probably Windows Millennium, every version since then has ran natively, and emulated the DOS interface mainly to allow system admins to run the older scripts they've always used, an essential in most commercial network, and for the ever decreasing number of users that can still understand DOS enough to write bat files
