KB2736422 & KB2773072 Fails to Install

I have been round and around with SFC scans (which are now showing error free) and CheckSUR logs for a good five hours now. It started off with 3 of the recent Patch Tuesday updates unable to install, but am now down to 2.

My assumption? The files aren't showing up on the windows update server for download. But that's just my blind intuition from what I can gather out of this code. If anyone else can help me with this that would be wonderful! Otherwise I'm literally going to :banghead: lol

If it's any help, I went thru event viewer just now and realized my hard drive has a bad block. I've ran chkdsk on it and it doesn't seem to be corrected. Oy. I am running RAID 0 array. Disregard if it doesn't play a role in correcting the WU issue.

At least it is clear of errors.

It looks to me as if the SoftwareDistribution folder has some issues - and needs to be reset.
run the fixit on the page here (not the one presented on the overlay when you open the page!)
How do I reset Windows Update components?

then reboot before attempting a Check For Updates at Windows Update - it will take some time.
Attempt the install, and post back with details, and a new CBS.log (whether it works or not!)

Had a hell of a time resetting everything, because on the link you provided, some things would not work. (or just wasn't there)

It did do the trick though. Everything installed just fine. Attached is the recent CBS log. Now, what do I do with the folders I renamed to BAK? Are those safe to delete?

And what caused the SoftwareDistribution folder to need to be reset in the first place?

Keep the BAK files for a few days just in case, and see how the system behaves.
I'd run a SFC and CheckSUR as well to see if it's brought any new errors to light.

Reran the Readiness Update Tool and another SFC. SFC came back clean, but now that I know how to read the CBS log, I did find some errors. Attached is the copy and paste's of the errors.

Have you checked that Windows Updates is pulling down the new updates properly yet?

Yeah I just tried WU again and everything is working normally. It recognized an update for MS Security Essentials (def update) and installed it just fine.

Please try this

Open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following command

SC config TrustedInstaller start= auto

close the window, and reboot.
Note the time, and wait 10 minutes after reboot, then post the new CBS.log

On a side note, I'm getting a couple errors thrown in Event Viewer that are tied to one of my hard drives in my RAID 0 array with bad blocks. If I can't get my system to behave once we're done exhausting options, I may replace the bad drive and start fresh.

The SFC report is clean - there's nothing outside the SFC run time in it, which makes me think that perhaps you trimmed it?

If you're getting bad blocks, BACK UP NOW - you never know when the drive may die. I think replacing the drive has to take precedence over fixing this.
