New optional update KB3035583 available

A new optional update KB3035583 is available, published today.

Update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1

I'm not having Windows Update problems so I don't know if new KB is a good thing or not.

I do all my Windows 7 updates manually.

That's a weird one :/
Optional = Hide.

Yea, I don't know what it's really about.
I might wait a couple of days and see if any issues are reported.
If no issues, then install it a test system.

I installed this update (KB3035583) this morning without any problems.

Prolly has to do with upgrade to Win 10 RTM (when it becomes available) I read that upgrades will be available thru WU/MU... I think? Or is this not a new "thing"?

"enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications" is a tad too vague for my tastes tyvm. This one gets added to my 30 or so "Hidden" list alongside other goodies like:

"You cannot change the time and date if the time zone is set to Samoa"
"Update to support the new currency symbol for the Russian ruble in Windows"

Sounds like untested pestware to me

Okay take a deep breath, it's story time.

Unable to install some updates and the things I did.

*Unable to install MSE update KB2994766/80070643
Tried to many things to list but finally removed MSE and went to MSE using I.E. 11.
Some sort of warning about ??? I allowed and downloaded a new MSE
It would not install and I tried many times.
Turned off Malwarebytes and it still wouldn't install.
Between these attempts did many reboots
Went to many Microsoft site looking for help. What a waste of time.
Remove all MSE anything and downloaded using Firefox and got the same results.

*Brain storm, I did a restore point before all this happened,well almost. Start and search would not work.
Restarted two more times and I was able to get to restore points and completed one.
MSE is working again so I updated it with out the KB installed.
Made sure Malwarebytes Premium was on but it was the older version 2.0.4.1028. Left it that way for the time being.
Checked Defender to make sure it was off
Checked Windows Firewall to make sure it was on.
Rebooted again.
Check for updates in W.U. and selected to download and install all of them.
Would not install KB2994766/MSE no matter how many times I tried.
** Careful I'm thinking again that possibly I have a hidden update that must be installed first.
I un-hide all hidden updates and ran another W.U. check.
Accepted all W.U. updates and downloaded and tried to install. No such luck.
Noticed that that Fxxxxxx Skype was the problem. So once again I hid Skype and unchecked it in msconfig.
Ran another W.U. check again.
I'm down to needing to KB2994766/MSE

It will not install Error 80070643

I have updated Malwarebytes to 2.1.4.1018 again.

Folks I have tried everything I can think of to install this MSE (KB) just because it is for MSE.
I really don't know what this KB does with MSE and I'm not having luck finding any information from Microsoft.

If you all can think of anything that I might of missed please advise me.

Definition updates don't show up as a KB unfortunately only KB2310138 and by 1.195.662.0 by definition

Installing Avast Web & File shield only (no bells n whistles) works for me.



Seriously though Jack that's some FUBAR stuff. I'll test MSE in a VM and see what happens...

Your tale of woe sounds similar (but different) than my "pleasant" experience dealing with Mr. Pa Bear M$ MVP here:
KB3023607 repeatedly removed by deepclean after KB3032359/KB3021952 (5.2mb ea) repeatedly offered/installed... lather, rinse, repeat.

M$.Answers.Com is the biggest waste of bandwidth in the history of history IMO. YMMV.

I posted a question about 2 Important updates returning shortly after running it
I ended up hiding both of those updates they both seemed misclassified to me :/

Easy on MVP's brother there's allot of them around plus he's been re-nominated I'm not sure how many years off hand.

I seldom have problems with Windows 7 Updates.
I think I will just wait until Microsoft gets a fix because it seems to be more than my capabilities can handle.

Noel might find a fix. He does things like that.
Finding fixes hidden in the dark corners of Microsoft is a challenge.

I have run into a couple of issues but that's usually lately because I hide ie11,
Once I unhide it and restart my machine and recheck for updates the issue goes away,
I understand your using ie11 but I was just adding details to my issue,
I now just leave it listed as a Optional update along with Silverlight.

Well I don't know if this helps but here's my story regarding the latest windows updates:

Had issues with high RAM usage by svchost/ wuaserv after installing updates and eventually rolled back to last month's system image backup.

Downloaded and reinstalled updates and got 9 failed updates and 3 succeeded.

Rolled back system again. Enabled system restore (usuaully it's kept disabled) - enabled IE (usually kept disabled) and tried again.

Got 3 failed updates and 9 succeeded (reverse of above).

Went to Contol Panel > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset.

Ran IE 64bit and reset it. Ran IE 32bit and reset it. Rebooted.

Ran UVK fix for windows updates which also clears WU history and temp files. Rebooted. RAM usage back to normal but WU check not working.

Ran MS Fixit for WU (MicrosoftFixit50202.msi) and rebooted. Still had problems.

What worked was to run the MS Fixit for WU three times with a reboot each time then everything worked and is now back to normal and all updates installed.

Edit: Used non aggressive options when running the MS Fixit.
