Thanks for any help.
Hardware: Dell T3400 running Windows 7 Pro. (Windows Live Mail)
Dell GX280 running Windows XP Pro. (Outlook Express 6.0)

I need detailed instructions that I can print to move the
email/addresses/settings etc. (3 identities) from the XP puter to
the Windows 7 puter.

Hope this is placed in the correct forum.

In windows 7 live mail you can use the import\export method. The format is "*.iaf"

Im not sure though for xp.

So test\try to export accounts from the xp then import accounts in windows 7.

When one tries to export from Outlook Express 6.0 it only does
it for Outlook and exchange. Not Windows Live Mail.
So I am stuck for the present.

Personally, I've used the import/export features of email programs only for moving large amounts of data (like messages or contacts). When it comes to account settings I prefer to force myself to be reminded of how things need to be set up. One way to do that is to look at the Account Properties as set up in Outlook Express and create a new account in WLM and set it up the same way. Another is to look at the instructions posted on the email service provider's website.

To transfer messages just use OE's Export feature and WLM's Import/Messages feature, choosing to import from "Outlook Express 6". For contacts export from OE the .WAB file and in WLM import from the "Windows Address Book (.WAB)" format. You must be in the contacts window of WLM to see the contacts import feature.

Regarding WLM contacts, you need to first decide whether or not you want your contacts saved by Microsoft and whether you want the option to use other Live features like Photo Email cloud storage. If you do, then "sign-in" first to use your "signed-in" contact list. The convenience of having the contacts totally preserved and maintained makes signing-in well worth it. If you don't want to sign-in you will want to set the connection option "stop signing in" (unless it's already set like that) so that you will be using your "not signed-in" contact list by default from then on.

Thank you so much for responding Roncerr,
Since I am only going to have to do this one time I've decided to do it the hard way.
The other alternatives either do not work or are full of pitfalls.
A little each day and I will soon have my email in Window 7.
Hopefully before the older computer dies.
So this should close this thread.
