Another one.

Any chance you can check the contents of this on.

I have it on selective startup and have only enabled the Nvidia driver service.

It points to a bad driver, that's all. It doesn't say which one.

I suggest updating your nVidia drivers, or uninstalling and installing a fresh copy.

Would a clean format and install make any difference?

Or is there any else i can to to try to workout what driver/device is causing the problem.

Most of the components are still under warranty.

Many thanks

James

If you're up for a clean install, go for it. We don't recommend clean install as a first resort here, just because it is a lot of work for some people.

A clean install should fix driver issues, simply because it removes them all. I suggest going easy with installing programs afterward, so the problem does not return.

If you want a list of programs you can trust, here are a few to start with. If you want to install anything else, just give us a shout and we'll decide if it's safe.

Google Chrome (the stable version)
FireFox
Microsoft Security Essentials

Hi Jonathan,

I've been doing a little digging and found this.
Daily BSOD Windows 7 x64
It seems to be a similar problem.

As the ram i have in my system is : Corsair XMS2 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit

However i noticed from the mem tester you may be do yesterday that the speed said 800MHz.

Could this be casing it?

If i try changing the voltages can i do any harm to the components?

Should I try upping the Volts from 1.5v to 1.6v?

I have an Asus M4N72-E Mobo. I not sure what the setting will be called.

Thanks
James

If its not the case.

Done more digging it looks like Asus recommend to set the memory to:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Corsair Memory Problem

TWIN2X4096-8500C5 DDR2-1066 4GB Kit (2 x 2GB) 2.1v 5-5-5-15-2T

However i have no idea what the 5-5-5-15-2T means :S.

Any idea what settings will the 5-5-5-15-2T relate to?

MAny Thanks for all your help (again :D)
James.

Ok,

I've found the Asus Manual.

Have uploaded it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/736039/e4408_m4n72-e.pdf

Its secured so i couldn't copy and paste.

On page 2-14 there are some details about the timings. However im un sure as to how they match up.

5-5-5-12-2T

do i just match then up against the first option separating by - and leave the last ones as auto?

Ans what should i supply for 2nd Info? (Auto?)

Or is this all a waste of time?

Let me contact a memory expert for you. I can identify what the problem is, what it's beyond me to fix it.

He'll post here shortly.

EDIT: on second thought, it could be several hours. It is 11:50 PM where he lives.

The only way you can damage your system is by increasing the voltage too much. Other than that, messing with clock speeds can only make the problem worse, or fix it.

Well i tried.

I managed to up the voltage and timings to what was stated on the ram.

And it lasted all night without any issues however after a restart this morning it went back to its usual trick and bsod me.

Message seemed the same as before.

I also noticed that when i turn the power on all the fans and lights turn on for a second then all go off then come back on again. just as it tries to post.

I think i'll try a format tonight when i get home from work (10am here) and see how that goes.

A good rule of thumb: whenever you're going to adjust voltage and timings in the bios, first set the correct voltage, save your changes and reboot back into the bios. Then set the correct timings, again saving your changes and rebooting into the bios, this time to make sure your changes have been applied correctly.

Just downloaded a HHD checker.

I've run the memory tester again and its passed all 4 times. If memory is to blame could it still pass?
