Dell says Windows 7 price is possible barrier

Well I understand Microsoft charges a lot for the software they make. And everyone has to see to a point why they do so. They are not making money on the physical computer or any of the parts inside other than maybe a few bucks on a legal issue (maybe).

So they kind of have to charge a decent amount or else they will not make any money.

But like that pic posted above. Ultimate edition is just not worth $320. Maybe $250 at most... If the prices are like that i will have to stick to Home Premium 64 bit.

of course they will make money. they will just not generate excessive wealth. unfortunately, that has been deemed an acceptable practice in today's society, and living in excesses has come to be an indicator of great success. it's sickening.

I think the prices in the earlier post reflected Retail MSRP and not OEM pricing, which is what Dell likely is complaining about.

OEM Win 7 will probably be similar to XP/Vista... which is around $100 for Home, and $150-$200 for Ultimate. MS generally increases prices by 10% year over year from what I noticed.

I can understand why Dell would complain since it reduces their hardware profit margin. But then again, Dell is famously known for discounting stuff below cost to undercut competitors in the business world to increase marketshare :)

Seems to me like the Better windows gets .. The more Handicapped it becomes.
I keep finding things that W7 can't do ... That I can do in XP.

Funny, I find Dell's prices possible barriers at times. They [and many others, see HP] charge way too much for some models of parts.
