I'm not justifying pirating, I'm pointing out that loyal customers buy and get crap in return. Are they so blind and cannot see that there is a reason why people pirate.

Also, all of those or any amusing image I run across, I copy it into my stash... Also, the music from video games is usually unavailable for sale, I acquire it to my "collection." Also a very large majority of music that I listen to is not sold.

So...based on that theory...it's ok not to pay you if you are poor at your job, have a bad day, etc?

That's why I use a pay service that allows you to download and pay per song.

itunes, Napster, etc. Pay for only the songs you like, not an album with 2-4 good songs and the rest crap...:)

No, like I said, I don't justify it. Also, my form of music is not sold, at least a large majority of it.

I love amazon.com mp3 section. Over 2000 free songs, bordering on 3000, and 99 cent songs that you can use for whatever you like.

The kindle rocks, too. I have their app for my android phone, and it's sweet.

Probably my form of music, I don't copyright it nor mass market it.

Yeah, it's just that the torrent was always faster for me. A LOT faster.

In theory it SHOULD be since you are getting bits of the file from the entire planet not just one site so you aren't constrained by the bandwidth of the single site.

The idea of torrents is actually very good -- these could and should be used much more often provided security aspects can be managed.

Remember the total CHAOS and server overload when the first OFFICIAL copies of W7 were released.

Had MS enabled Torrents to do the download this would probably have prevented two or three days of total Microsoft embarassement at their lack of foresight in upgrading their servers for what they knew would be a MASSIVE world wide demand.

Security is of course the issue but the technology remains perfectly valid and is an excellent way of managing large down (or up) loads of popular material.

Cheers
jimbo

juat had to be part of this never ending thread. Limewire stinks! Granted their are some things avalible but most of it is fake, viruses, or toolbars ect. I can't beleve how many people I've had to fix their systems because they downloaded a program or such but didn't notice it was only 46kb's( I think that's the average file).
Please split up my 2 cents worth with Corrine.

I have to agree with comment made earlier by jimbo. What about when you lend a CD or DVD to a friend. Isn't that just a different form of pirating? But we do it innocently without any illegal intent. Also, boy I bet I'm going to get some heck over this, what about some of the avatars and pictures in signatures on SevenForums, but again we do that innocently. As was said earlier as well, the government will never stop P2P sharing, which makes it neither right or wrong, well I guess it is wrong from a legal standpoint.

I am not defending nor condemning the practice of P2P sharing. What I'm suggesting is maybe there is a way to compromise. Perhaps if Torrent sites ie: the pirate bay, demonoid etc., were to charge a small fee, and I mean small not $50 a month, with the proceeds going to a split between the Torrent site and the larger portion going to some kind of entertainers fund would put this question to an end. Just my opinion.

That is a good idea about the actual creators of the content, the artist, benefiting from the distribution - unfortunately it's all the others who want a cut too,.

from a $15,99 album the artist gets $1.60 the rest is overhead

To nailgunner:- If you have"borrowed" noobvious's jpg then I hope you aren't sharing it using p2p!!!

I wasn't planning on it. But if I do in the future, I will do the appropriate copyright search to see who is the legal owner and see if I can get written permission to share from said owner.

My initial search will be slow and tedious, seeing as how there are no owner and/or copyright details listed in the properties section of the file.

But for any government copyright officials monitoring this thread, rest assured that I have only started my due diligence work, and there is no need to maintain a record of my IP address at this time.

People pirate because they are cheap (or would rather spend their money elsewhere), and think that companies and artists are way too overpaid as it is. Are you SERIOUSLY going to suggest that if there was no "crap" or there had never been any "crap", that pirating would not still be an issue? Get real. That's just an attempt to justify behavior.

But we do it innocently without any illegal intent.

Ignorance of the law has never been a legal defense. But the obvious issue is putting it on the internet to share with the whole world as opposed to a few circle of friends/families. It's the same theory as to why police pull you over if you go 10 miles over the limit, but ignore you if you go 5 miles over. They go after the worse offenders. Going 5 over is still breaking the law.

When it comes to images that I want to use in my blog, found via Bing or Google image search, I download the image to my computer and upload to the blog, unless marked with a copyright.

However, I also have a saved image that I really liked and thought I would want to use to accompany a future blog post. Because the image was identified as a photo created by the author, I wrote to the person and asked permission to use it and received permission. I haven't used it yet but have saved the e-mail providing permission.

Actually, it's not because they go after the "big fish". There is a cushion to account for calibration error of your speedometer.

Nonsense. I know parts of a certain metro area where you can speed by the state trooper in the medium at 10 miles over the limit and they don't blink an eye. In fact if you aren't going 10 over, you're likely to get bump drafted as if you were in a Nascar race.

This part i do agree on why buy the full album you are better off taking a few songs here and thiere 99cents isnt much and alot of time you get a few for just 99 cent most of the people who make albums songs or what ever more of them are 15 min flashes ina frying pan and the unknowing consumer teen ,adult will purchase the 2 song at best album and is stuck with it because of the return clause

which in turn would push people to pirate just the same why drop 15 bucks on a 2 songs on a 1-1/2 hour album

not that it is right but i have to say this is the first real point i can see someone downloading with out buying the whole real copy cause who wants to waste money like that, that could be a life saving meal there

now please don't take what im saying in a badway just pushing someone's valid point on the music industry it sucks point blank if they had something worth seeling people wouldnt do it lol  just a opinion

Don't worry noob i don't need a bullhorn to say this hahaha
