SP1 fails to download

telling people to do a clean install is a cop out.

There are a million and one possibilities. Would you rather spend a week racking your brain or just get it done in a few hours?

If a SP won't install, something is wrong somewhere. You may never find it. What if registry cleaners or driver uninstallers were used? I'm not saying the OP has used any of these, but many people feel the need to.

Hi, Gary1951.

Actually, I understand that having Language Packs installed can cause a C000009A error on install. The solution being to uninstall any language packs.

I understand your frustration and I'm not making light of yours or others problems.
Venting here is fine but we are not Microsoft nor affiliated with them.

We are just a group of volunteers trying to help everyone find the answers.

If you want to make a complaint to Microsoft feel free to pay them a visit.

We will continue to try to help everyone to the best of our knowledge though at this time it is not sufficient to fix everyones problems- YET!

It at least isn't a lack of trying to assist.

Hopalong, I realise that this is not a Microsoft affiliated site and I value the support that sites such as this give,I can only hope though that someone at Microsoft does monitor the problems that are cropping up everywhere with this one update.
The last frustration I had with SP1 beta install was caused by IE9 beta once deleted SP1 installed. Have tried deleting IE9 RTM but no luck this time.

Dear jd,
I must say sorry for not posting my comments much earlier! Iam leaning towards(like the leaning tower of Pisa) Electrotune 1200's suggestion of a clean re-install. But let me put forth my small opinion :

1) Your computer does not have any malware(yet to scan with HOUSECALL)

2) You have installed the Windows update readiness tool

3) You have patiently tried all the suggestions we offered you regarding download via the route of WINDOWS UPDATE!

4) Now, you have almost prepared the ground for installing via the Microsoft Download center, except for two things!

A) Install Windows Update KB2454826 (This "may" be important) click on --->start---->type " View installed updates" in the search box, and click---->Enter.Then search whether Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2454826) is listed. In rare situations the absense of this update will cause your kind of problem! Courtesy : Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center

B) update the drivers (which anyway is a good thing to do), but let us keep it on the backburner for a while!

Cheer up! I searched for this quote with tenacity ! It was said by General Doughlas McArthur, one of the greatest American Generals ever(Second world war) " “Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul.

I wanted to become a specialist in Diabetology after MD in Internal Medicine and desired to study for it in Australia. I was short on dollars and long on gritty perseverence and wrote the entrance test 4 times until i succeeded to get a percentile which gave me a scholarship for six months there in the New Castle University.

Please spend 5-10 minutes for searching this update : KB2454826 in -->Control Panel-->System And security-->Windows Update-->view installed updates.

If you can download the above update via windows update or if it is alreay installed, you should confidently try this other tack of downloading using the Microsoft download center

Best wishes,
Sreedhav:)

Dear HopalongX,
A site "almost"(b'cause we have WIN.8 and Vista forums too) dedicated to Windows 7 is like the Kohinoor Diamond embedded in Her Excellency Queen Elizabeth's crown!

I have been really active only since 2-3 months! I liked the signature tune (your's too) of Brink, our Admin.-->There are no dumb questions, only those who don't ask(along those lines)!

That's a reassuring signature tune indeed!:)

After deleting SoftwareDistribution Folder SP1 will partially download from Windows Update. Stops at 33% and gives same error 800b0100.
Strangely standalone installer still does nothing just gives same error.
ps I have done every suggestion put forward sofar re install problems.
My issue is that unless this is resolved without reinstalling the same issues will arrive down the track with other SP's or major updates.

Until MS can sort out the mess.

Well... Do you actually think they're going to code a new SP1?

I have no idea. I have never known or seen so many problems with a service pack before. If it's just a series of hotfixes which I was led to believe there shouldnt be this many problems.

I really don't know... You don't really hear the success stories, and most people that can't get it installed can't be bothered, and really don't care enough to pop over to Sevenforums to ask. It's a tough one to judge really.

I remember XP SP2 giving me crazy headaches. I finally broke down and re-installed. It was my first reformat actually. So I learned some basics from it.

Vista SP2 was painless for me, installed from WU without a hitch, but I ended up doing a clean install anyway. I think I was bored or something.

I've already done one clean install and was hoping to avoid doing another. That said,it's beginning to look like that is my only option or I will just continue to have problems going forward . Sure hate to loose all those little tweaks ...
So if I understand you correctly and want to go that route. Clean install win7, run RUS from the copy I downloaded, run SP1 from the copy I downloaded. The run windows update for all else?
Would it be wise to run a repair from the original win7 disk first just to see if that takes care of the problem or would that just be a waste of time?

I would try a repair install first.

You won't loose everything. Drivers and such stay so no need to redo them.
I would back up everything.
It all should be there when done with repair install.
Tutorial for Repair install if you need it.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Some people have fixed the problem with repair install.

Anyway if everything is backed up you will be ready for reinstall if necessary.

I'm not suggesting or telling you to do either it is what I would do first- repair install at this point- if all else has failed.
Up to you.
Those are the options if you decide to .

It's up to you really, but I would just clean install it.

After you install Windows, just throw the SP1 straight on it. Make sure you're connected to the net when you do this. The SP install process will download the files you need.

Hi, Gary1951.

From Windows Update error 800B0100:

If you receive the Windows Update error 800b0100, it means that a file needed by Windows Update is not registered with Windows correctly.

You could look at the CBS.log to see if there is an update that shows with an error and, if it is uninstallable, remove it, reboot, install it again, reboot and then try the SP again. You need to copy "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS" to your document folder and then open the log with Notepad.

Otherwise, I would opt for the repair install first to see if that is successful. Another option is that free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for issues related to Windows 7 Service Packs. Availability of chat, phone or e-mail support differs depending on your geographic location. Some issues may require more advanced support for which there may be a charge. (Note: If you select Other, please have your Product Identification Number available as it will be needed to determine if no-charge support is available)

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&gprid=14496&&st=1&wfxredirect=1&sd=gn

It will be helpful to provide "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS". Zip all files into 1 ZIP file. If the zip file is too large to attach to your support request, upload the zip file to your SkyDrive and include the file name and link in your support request.

Dear electrotune 1200,
Amen! The best advise so far and a rep+ is winging your way from me! The central point which has to be understood is"throwing the SP1 right into the pristine new re-formatted disk with the OS cleared of all junk!"

I bit the bullet and cloned my hard drive so that I had a fully functioning backup. Did an update install then ran standalone SP1 installer then went to windows update, only about 9 to download. Deleted all install backup files had to reinstall video drivers, finished with big defrag. All is working perfectly now.

A lot of commentaries Ive read have not recommended doing anything necessarily if SP1 won't install. The service pack is largely hotfixes so you're likely not to miss anything by not installing it.

Given the large number of problems with it it wouldn't surprise me if a revised service pack is issued that's a little more friendly re installation.

Sorry, no way it's ever gonna happen. Two different Service Packs floating around, now that would be a mess. They probably started working on SP2 already.

It's not going to be that big of a deal not having SP1 installed at the moment. Eventually future updates are going to be reliant on it. Might as well get the work done now, no matter what it takes.

I suspect that sp2 will roll it all up - hopefully that will install for more people without any issues.

MS does have the option of releasing all hotfixes separately that were in sp1 - that way users would be able to see which one or two are causing the problem.
